Paradise Restaurant (Auckland, New Zealand)
This place has been praised many times by different newspapers, media and bloggers the likes of Urban List, Viva, Concrete Playground even Stuff and NZ Herald they all agree that this is place to get the best curries in Auckland. I can’t agree more, even my colleagues and friends rave about it. I was quite late in discovering this place, just actually ate here a couple of months ago, because it is quite far from where I live, though I had tried a lot of its dishes thanks to colleagues who brings it to office, there was even a time where they just drove there for takeaway to be served as our lunch.
It’s an impressive place, they have 3 separate establishments less than 100 meters apart, each establishment serves a different purpose, one for takeaway, one for normal dining and another one for buffet. Buffet is amazing and the best value you can get at NZ$20.00, it’s really cheap in New Zealand standard specially if you take into consideration the cleanliness of this place and the quality of the food. All of their premises look like brand spanking new, it’s hard to see a dirty spot even in the kitchen which is viewable by public though large glass windows.
The food was great, I already tried their entrees like Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka and Chicken 65. For the curries I already tried the Mughlai Chicken, Paneer Butter Masala, Butter Chicken, Jalfrezi Lamb and Kadai Lamb. Everything was amazing, the flavours was intense but not really overpowering, the amount of spices that were used was perfect. Well-seasoned and I can safely say the best curries I tried so far.
It’s not just the curries or entrees who brings life to this place even their Biryani regardless whether is lamb or chicken was spot on. Did I say even the naan’s were addictive?
If you haven’t tried this place, you are missing a lot, you need to try it so you will understand why people talk about it, even Indians love them and some of the ones I know say it’s the most authentic taste that you can get here in New Zealand. So, it means that if you are used to the sweet Kiwi-Indian style butter chicken then let me warn you, their butter chicken here is different than what we are all used to, just try it for yourself.
Another thing that I like from these guys is that they give back to the community where they give free curries to those in need, a really nice gesture.
So, what are you waiting for, head over there now and try either of their three establishments but if I were you go for the buffet and find your favourite there so next time you go for a takeaway or if you choose to dine in, you will know what to order.
I give this place 10 out of 10, for cleanliness, food quality and quantity, and service. It’s hard to find a place like this specially with the affordable price tag that comes along with it.
