Long layovers can either feel painfully exhausting or surprisingly memorable depending on where you end up spending your time. During our transit through Doha on the way from Auckland to Zürich, exhaustion had fully set in after hours inside the aircraft and endless walking through Hamad International Airport. Then suddenly, somewhere around Concourse C, we spotted something impossible to miss: the bright blue branding of the Oreo Café.

The reaction was immediate, especially from my daughter who absolutely loves Oreos. Our eyes lit up instantly. At that point, we needed coffee, sugar, energy, and honestly just somewhere comfortable to sit down for a while. Oreo Café ended up being exactly that.

It is not every day you stumble upon a fully themed Oreo café inside an airport, let alone the first permanent Oreo Café outside the United States. The novelty alone makes it stand out, but thankfully it is more than just branding and Instagram bait.

A Café That Fully Commits to the Oreo Theme

Walking into the café feels playful in a way most airport dining spots never attempt.

The entire space leans heavily into the Oreo identity with its blue-and-white colour palette, bright lighting, Oreo-inspired décor, and even furniture shaped like Oreo biscuits. The café itself is surprisingly spacious for an airport dessert bar, with plenty of seating areas that make it easy to relax during transit.

The open preparation area also adds a bit of theatre to the experience. You can watch the staff assembling desserts, layering cream, blending drinks, and decorating shakes right in front of you. It creates energy inside the café and gives the place a more lively atmosphere compared to standard airport coffee shops.

For an airport café, it also felt remarkably clean and welcoming.

The Dark Mocha That Completely Won Me Over

The standout item for me was easily the Dark Mocha.

I genuinely did not expect much because most mochas in cafés tend to disappoint me. Too often they taste watered down, overly milky, or barely chocolatey. This one was completely different.

The Oreo Dark Mocha was rich, smooth, deeply chocolatey, and balanced beautifully with the coffee itself. Instead of tasting like weak coffee drowned in syrup, it actually tasted like proper mocha from start to finish. The chocolate flavour remained present throughout the drink without becoming overpoweringly sweet.

Honestly, it was probably one of the best mochas I have had in a very long time.

The portion size was generous too, which matters when you are trying to recharge after a brutal long-haul flight.

Oreo Desserts That Feel Like Transit Indulgence

Of course, we could not stop with just coffee.

We also ordered the Oreo Tiramisu and Oreo Cheesecake, both served in individual cups. Visually, they looked exactly like what you would expect from a themed Oreo dessert shop: layers of cream, crushed cookies, chocolate, and decorative toppings stacked dramatically inside clear cups.

The Oreo Tiramisu leaned more toward dessert indulgence rather than traditional coffee-heavy tiramisu. Sweet, creamy, rich, and satisfying. Definitely designed for Oreo lovers first.

The Oreo Cheesecake was similarly enjoyable with creamy filling and generous Oreo crumb throughout. Dense enough to feel indulgent without becoming too heavy after a long flight.

This café clearly understands its audience. Nobody comes here expecting restrained desserts or subtle sweetness. You come here because you want sugar, comfort, and something fun during transit.

And in that regard, it succeeds completely.

Service That Made the Experience Better

One thing that genuinely stood out during our visit was the service.

The staff were warm, approachable, and patient despite the busy airport environment. One of the staff members helped explain the menu and even assisted us with conversion rates while ordering, which was appreciated given how disoriented travellers can become during long journeys.

Everyone we interacted with carried themselves with a friendly attitude that made the café feel welcoming rather than transactional.

Airport staff often look exhausted themselves, so seeing genuine smiles and enthusiasm always leaves an impression.

Airport Pricing With Some Expected Pain

Now let us be realistic.  This is still an airport café inside one of the world’s major international transit hubs. Prices are expensive. In fact, even compared to many airports, Doha still feels pricey. The desserts and drinks definitely sit on the premium side.

That said, this is one of those cases where the overall experience softens the blow somewhat. The quality of the drinks was genuinely good, the desserts were enjoyable, the environment was comfortable, and the novelty factor added to the experience.

You are paying for location, branding, and convenience, but thankfully the actual products are strong enough to justify it more than most airport cafés do.

A Fun Break From the Exhaustion of Travel

What I appreciated most about Oreo Café was not just the food itself, but how it changed the mood of the journey.

Long-haul travel can become emotionally and physically draining very quickly. Airports blur together after a while. But places like this create small memorable moments during exhausting trips.

Sitting there with a rich mocha, sweet desserts, and my daughter happily enjoying the Oreo theme somehow broke the fatigue for a while. It turned an ordinary transit stop into something we still remember long after the trip ended.
