Tanpopo Ramen Glenfield

Ramen holds a special place in our hearts as a beloved comfort food, particularly on those chilly days when a warm and flavourful bowl of noodles and soup can provide immense solace. Fortunately, Auckland boasts several exceptional ramen establishments, and among them, Tanpopo Ramen has consistently impressed us. While we typically frequent their Anzac Avenue branch, we recently decided to explore their Glenfield location. Join us as we share our experience and thoughts on this delightful ramen spot.

During our visit to Tanpopo Ramen in Glenfield, we had the pleasure of indulging in the following dishes:

Shio Tonkotsu Ramen (NZ$15.00): This bowl featured noodles immersed in a rich and flavourful pork-based soup delicately blended with a touch of salt. Toppings included succulent BBQ pork, bamboo shoots, and dried seaweed.

Shoyu Ramen (NZ$15.00): Here, we savoured noodles swimming in a light and aromatic chicken and soy sauce-based soup, exhibiting a delicate balance of flavours. The bowl came adorned with BBQ pork, bamboo shoots, dried seaweed, and bean sprouts.

Miso Tonkotsu Ramen (NZ$18.00): This particular creation showcased noodles bathing in a luxurious and savory pork-based soup, artfully fused with a specially crafted soy sauce blend. We opted for extra Chashu pork, which elevated the dish to new heights. The toppings included BBQ pork, bamboo shoots, dried seaweed, and bean sprouts.

Karaage (NZ$13.00): Alongside our ramen delights, we couldn’t resist the temptation of their crispy and flavourful Japanese-style fried chicken, known as Karaage. The chicken had a delicious seasoning, although it leaned slightly toward being oily. However, the generous serving size and larger chunks of chicken made it stand out among other Karaage dishes we’ve tried.

The ramen dishes at Tanpopo Ramen left an indelible impression on us. Each bowl boasted exceptional flavour profiles, featuring perfectly cooked noodles with a satisfying texture and broths brimming with rich umami goodness. The meticulous attention to detail and commitment to creating authentic ramen were evident in every spoonful. The Shio Tonkotsu Ramen offered a deeply satisfying depth of flavour, while the Shoyu Ramen showcased a harmonious interplay of chicken and soy sauce. The Miso Tonkotsu Ramen, with its specially crafted soy sauce blend, took the experience to another level, and the additional Chashu pork elevated it even further, making it an absolute treat for the taste buds.

Tanpopo Ramen consistently delivers one of the best ramen experiences we’ve had outside of Japan. The flavours effortlessly transport us back to the ramen shops we frequented during our travels, and the friendly and attentive service adds to the overall pleasant dining experience. Considering the quality and authenticity of the dishes served, the pricing at Tanpopo Ramen is reasonable, offering excellent value for money.

Situated in Glenfield, the Tanpopo Ramen location offers convenient access, with ample parking and accessibility via bus routes. However, it’s important to note that seating is limited, so arriving early is advisable, especially during peak hours, to secure a table. While takeout is an option, we highly recommend dining in to fully appreciate the ramen at its best—freshly prepared and served piping hot.

To conclude, our experience at Tanpopo Ramen in Glenfield surpassed our expectations. The tantalizing aromas, rich flavours, and welcoming atmosphere created a truly enjoyable dining experience. Whether it was their Shio Tonkotsu Ramen, Shoyu Ramen, or Miso Tonkotsu Ramen, each bowl exemplified

I do enjoy our local noodles a lot but I’m not crazy about Japanese ramen, not into their rich soups.
