Bivacco is a remarkable spot that captures the essence of simple, unfussy Italian cuisine, all while nestled in the stunning setting of Auckland’s Harbour. This restaurant is a haven for anyone who appreciates quality food made from locally sourced ingredients, whether you’re looking to enjoy a leisurely lunch, a memorable dinner, after-work drinks, or a weekend feast.
The restaurant itself is nothing short of impressive. Its sprawling space is big, bright, and beautifully designed. Picture marble tables, dark timber pillars, rustic linen fabrics, and rich emerald green tones all coming together to create an inviting ambiance. Add to that the never-ending veranda, and you’ve got a sensational waterside setting that’s perfect for any occasion.
Bivacco manages to strike the perfect balance between business and pleasure, with its open-plan kitchen on one side and an equally impressive bar on the other. The menu is just as inviting as the decor, offering a range of simple yet delectable Italian dishes that cater to all tastes.
We started our meal with the Garlic Pizza Bread (NZ$14.00), a delightful twist on a classic. Instead of the usual flat presentation, this was puffed up like an Indian Poori, buttery and best eaten right away.
Next up was the Mushroom Pizza (NZ$34.00), topped with truffle, gorgonzola, walnut, and rocket. It was delicious, with a dough that was soft and chewy, reminiscent of the pizzas we enjoyed during our European travels.
The Pork Cotoletta (NZ$39.00) served with Parmesan, soft herbs, pineapple-black pepper mostarda, and lemon-caper butter, it was juicy despite being lean, though it needed a touch of salt to bring out its full flavour.
The Ricotta & Mascarpone Ripiena (NZ$38.00), however, was a standout—creamy, flavourful, and perfectly balanced with roasted pumpkin, tarragon, and lemon zest.
But the dish that truly stole the show was the BBQ Wagyu Tongue (NZ$42.00). Paired with oyster mushroom skewers and mustard, this dish was nothing short of exquisite. The beef tongue was so tender and flavourful that it melted in your mouth, blending seamlessly with the charred mushrooms.
From start to finish, our experience at Bivacco was fantastic. The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was both relaxed and refined. Whether you’re there for a relaxed early evening drink or a full dinner, Bivacco is the perfect spot to enjoy the best of Auckland’s dining scene.
