Hai Linh Restaurant (Tam Coc, Ninh Bình, Vietnam)
A welcoming café and restaurant in Tam Coc serving Vietnamese coffee, mango crepes, and freshly cooked stir-fried pork noodles. A leisurely stop before visiting Bích Động Pagoda turned into a delightful brunch with silky coconut coffee, rich salt coffee, fresh mango crepes, and a hearty noodle dish. Sometimes the simplest meals become the most memorable. #HaiLinhRestaurant #TamCoc #NinhBinh

One of the things I enjoyed most about staying in Tam Coc was that there never seemed to be a rush. Every morning felt slower than the last, with cyclists riding past, tour buses dropping off visitors and cafés gradually filling with travellers planning their next destination. Before heading to Chùa Bích Động, one of Ninh Bình’s most famous pagodas, we decided to have a light meal instead of jumping straight into sightseeing.
While walking through the main street of Tam Coc, we came across Hai Linh Restaurant, a spacious restaurant and café with large open windows overlooking the busy road. It looked comfortable, air-conditioned, and inviting, exactly what we needed before spending the afternoon exploring temples and climbing more steps.
Although the menu featured everything from pho and fried noodles to local goat dishes and fresh salads, we weren’t looking for a heavy lunch. We simply wanted something filling enough to keep us going for the afternoon.

A Bright and Comfortable Dining Room
Stepping inside was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant was much larger than it appeared from outside. High ceilings, warm yellow walls, woven bamboo light fittings, and wooden furniture gave the place a modern yet distinctly Vietnamese character.
Natural light poured through the front windows while the gentle breeze and air conditioning offered welcome relief from the growing midday heat. It felt clean, spacious, and relaxed, making it an ideal place to escape for an hour before continuing our journey.
The staff greeted us warmly and handed over an English menu, making ordering very straightforward for international visitors.

Vietnamese Coffee Done Right
Vietnam is famous for its coffee culture, so there was no way we were leaving without trying something different.
We ordered both a Salt Coffee and a Coconut Milk Coffee, two drinks that have become increasingly popular across the country.
The Salt Coffee immediately caught my attention. The rich Vietnamese coffee formed the base, while a thick layer of lightly salted cream sat on top. The slight saltiness enhanced the coffee’s natural bitterness rather than overpowering it, creating a wonderfully smooth drink that became sweeter with every sip. It was unlike any coffee I’d had before and easily one of the most interesting drinks I tried during our Vietnam trip.
The Coconut Milk Coffee offered a completely different experience. Cold, creamy, and wonderfully refreshing, it combined strong Vietnamese coffee with smooth coconut milk that almost resembled a coffee milkshake. It was perfect for the tropical weather and disappeared surprisingly quickly.
If you’re visiting Vietnam for the first time, I would highly recommend trying both styles. They showcase just how creative Vietnamese coffee culture has become.

A Simple but Delicious Meal
For something to eat, we kept things fairly light.
We ordered a plate of Stir Fried Pork Noodles, which arrived generously loaded with tender slices of pork, fresh bok choy, carrots, onions, and other vegetables tossed through perfectly cooked noodles. Everything tasted fresh and well balanced, with enough seasoning to bring the ingredients together without becoming overly salty or greasy.
It wasn’t a complicated dish, but it was exactly the sort of comforting meal that satisfies without leaving you feeling too full before a day of sightseeing.
Alongside the noodles, we couldn’t resist trying one of their sweet offerings.
The Mango Crepes looked simple on the menu, but they were beautifully presented when they arrived. Two thin, delicate crepes folded neatly around fresh slices of ripe Vietnamese mango made for a wonderfully light dessert. The natural sweetness of the mango complemented the soft crepes perfectly, creating a refreshing finish that wasn’t overly rich.
Sometimes fresh fruit is all a dessert really needs.

Plenty of Choice for Every Traveller
Although we only stopped for coffee and a light meal, the menu offered far more than what we ordered.
Visitors looking for traditional Vietnamese cuisine can choose from pho, fried rice, fried noodles, fresh salads, and local goat specialities, which Ninh Bình is particularly famous for. There are also pancakes, coffee, teas, smoothies, and fresh juices, making the restaurant suitable whether you’re after breakfast, lunch, dinner or simply an afternoon coffee break.
The English menu makes ordering easy, and prices remain very reasonable considering the comfortable surroundings.
Ready for the Next Adventure
After finishing our meal, we felt completely refreshed. The coffees gave us the boost we needed, while the noodles and crepes were enough to satisfy our hunger without making us sluggish.
With full stomachs and plenty of energy, we climbed back into our transport and made our way towards Chùa Bích Động, one of the most beautiful pagodas in Ninh Bình. Looking back, stopping at Hai Linh Restaurant turned out to be the perfect way to begin the afternoon.
Travelling isn’t always about finding the most famous restaurant. Sometimes it’s simply about discovering a comfortable place where good food, excellent coffee and friendly service come together to create a relaxing break in the middle of a busy itinerary.
Final Thoughts
Hai Linh Restaurant proved to be much more than just a convenient stop before visiting Bích Động Pagoda. It offered comfortable surroundings, attentive service and a varied menu that caters to both local diners and international travellers.
The Salt Coffee and Coconut Milk Coffee were both outstanding introductions to Vietnam’s creative coffee culture, while the Stir Fried Pork Noodles and Mango Crepes made for a satisfying yet light meal.
If you’re staying in Tam Coc and need a comfortable café or restaurant before heading out to explore the area’s famous attractions, Hai Linh Restaurant is well worth adding to your itinerary.

Vietnam has been on our to do list since we lived in Thailand. Thank you for the address and sampling the menu. I think I would have chosen the same as you. And those noodles look so fresh and tasty. As always, I will pin it on my google map :) ~Nessa
