mit&ohne Zürich Hauptbahnhof (Zürich, Switzerland)
mit&ohne Zürich HB review featuring Yaprak Steak Döner, Kids Kebab, generous portions, quality beef, and fast service. Always packed, always moving, and somehow still delivering one of the cleanest, most satisfying döner kebabs in Zürich.

I’ve walked past mit&ohne at Zürich HB more times than I can count. Every single time, there’s a queue. Not just a short one, but the kind that makes you pause and wonder if it’s really worth the wait. In a place like Zürich, where food options are everywhere, that kind of consistency usually means something.
So one day, curiosity finally won. This time, I wasn’t alone, I was with my daughter. We decided to line up, just to see what the hype was all about.
First Impressions
The place moves fast. There’s an organised chaos to it, a steady stream of customers, staff working efficiently behind the counter, and that unmistakable sight of stacked döner meat slowly rotating behind glass. It’s not a place where you linger. It’s designed for movement, for quick decisions, for people on the go.
Despite the crowd, the staff remain composed and surprisingly friendly. Orders move quickly, and before long, you’re handed something substantial.
Yaprak Steak Döner & Kids Kebab
We ordered two things: the Yaprak Steak Döner Kebab (120g, CHF 19.50) and a Kids Kebab (CHF 10.00). Simple enough.
But when the food arrived, something immediately stood out, we genuinely couldn’t tell which one was which.
Both looked equally full. Same generous stuffing, nearly same weight in hand, same visual impact. Either the portion difference is subtle enough that you need a scale to notice, or the person preparing ours decided to be extra generous that day.
Later, when we told my sister we tried it, she just laughed and said, “Of course it’s full, Zürich people love that place.” Looking at the crowd, it’s hard to argue with that.

The Food
At the centre of everything is the Yaprak steak, thinly sliced beef layered and cooked on the vertical rotisserie. It’s well-seasoned, but not aggressively so. The flavour is clean, balanced, and focused on the meat itself rather than heavy spices or sauces.
The texture is where it really works. Juicy without being greasy, tender without falling apart. Each bite feels satisfying without becoming overwhelming.
Inside the flatbread which was freshly made in location, everything comes together in a way that feels deliberate. Fresh vegetables add crunch and contrast, onions, cabbage, tomato, while the sauce ties everything together with a light creaminess that doesn’t drown the meat.

The Kids Kebab? Practically the same experience. Same quality, same flavour, just marketed differently. If anything, it makes you question whether you actually need to go for the larger portion at all.
Bread & Build
The bread deserves a mention. Slightly crisp on the outside, soft and airy inside, with those toasted sesame seeds adding both texture and a subtle nuttiness. It holds everything together without collapsing, something a lot of kebabs struggle with once the fillings start to pile up.
It’s a small detail, but it makes a difference.

Atmosphere & Service
mit&ohne sits firmly in that fast-food category, but it’s a step above what you’d expect. The service is efficient, the staff are engaging, and there’s a sense that they know exactly what they’re doing.
You’re not here for a long, relaxed meal. You’re here because you want something good, quickly, in one of the busiest transit hubs in Switzerland.
And they deliver that consistently.

Price vs Portion
At around CHF 20 for a standard kebab, it’s definitely on the higher side. That’s Zürich HB pricing for you. Some people online mention that this branch is more expensive than their Badenerstrasse location, and that portions can be more controlled here.
But based on what we got, portion size wasn’t an issue. If anything, it felt generous, especially considering the Kids Kebab looked almost identical.
When the quality is there, the price becomes easier to justify.

Overall
mit&ohne at Zürich HB is one of those places that earns its reputation the hard way, by being consistently good in a high-pressure, high-traffic environment.
- The meat is quality
- The portions are satisfying
- The service is efficient
- And the experience is exactly what it needs to be
Now it makes sense why it’s always packed. And after finally trying it, I get it, this is the kind of place you end up going back to without thinking twice.
