Indian Craft Brewery (Nagawara, Bengaluru, India)

A craft brewery that somehow became our nightly ritual in Bengaluru, great beer, massive space, solid food, and the kind of atmosphere you keep coming back to.  A detailed review of Indian Craft Brewery in Bengaluru, covering ambience, craft beers, food, service, pricing, and overall dining experience.

Before coming to Bengaluru, we already had a shortlist of places recommended by colleagues who had been here before, and Indian Craft Brewery was consistently mentioned. Getting there the first time felt a bit sketchy, I’ll admit. The road leading in was dark, unfinished, and lined with construction materials and heavy machinery. For a moment, I wondered if we were heading the right way. But once you get past that short stretch, the doubts disappear. The area felt safe, and the brewery itself quickly made a strong first impression.

Conveniently, it’s only a few minutes’ walk from where we were staying at the Hilton, which ended up being dangerous in the best possible way. What started as a “let’s just check it out” visit turned into something much more habitual.

First Impressions and Ambience

Let me start by saying this place is huge. Indian Craft Brewery isn’t just a restaurant with a bar, it’s an expansive space with both indoor and outdoor seating, landscaped gardens, water features, and enough room to wander around with a drink in hand. On our first visit, we sat by the poolside near a fountain and bar counter, and immediately understood why people talk about the ambience here. In the evening, with all the lights switched on, reflections dancing on the water, and music floating through the space, it genuinely feels special.

What I also appreciated was how the brewery tells its story. Scattered around the venue are old photos and written narrations that give you a glimpse into its history and evolution. It adds a personal touch and makes the space feel lived-in rather than just designed to impress.

On certain nights, there’s a live DJ, which lifts the energy without becoming overwhelming. There’s even a small play area with billiards and foosball, making it feel welcoming not just for drinkers, but for groups looking to spend a relaxed evening together.

Service and Overall Experience

Service at Indian Craft Brewery was consistently excellent. The staff we interacted with were friendly, attentive, and genuinely hospitable. Orders were taken promptly, recommendations felt honest, and plates were cleared efficiently without anyone hovering. The overall flow of service made each visit feel smooth and effortless, which is exactly what you want at a place you might end up visiting more than once.

Despite the size of the venue, cleanliness was well maintained, including the restrooms, which is always a good sign. Even on busy nights, the place never felt chaotic.

Food That Matches the Setting

The menu at Indian Craft Brewery is extensive, covering Indian classics, Indo-Chinese favourites, continental dishes, and a few local specialities. It’s a broad offering, but most of what we tried was executed with care and confidence.

The chilli chicken was a textbook Indo-Chinese crowd-pleaser, crispy fried chicken pieces coated in a glossy sauce of soy, garlic, and chillies. Each bite delivered crunch first, followed by a savoury, slightly spicy glaze that lingered just long enough to make you reach for another piece.

The Mangalorean chicken ghee roast was richer and more complex. Juicy chicken was coated in a deep red Byadgi chilli and tamarind sauce, glossy with ghee and packed with warmth rather than aggressive heat. It was bold, aromatic, and incredibly satisfying, especially paired with a cold beer.

The tandoori lamb chops were another highlight. Succulent and well-marinated, the lamb was grilled until smoky at the edges while remaining tender inside. The Kashmiri chilli seasoning gave colour and mild heat, and the chargrilled onions alongside added sweetness and texture.

One of the more indulgent dishes was the chilli pork bao. Inside the soft bun was crispy fried braised pork belly, rich, fatty, and deeply savoury, balanced by raw mango salad that cut through the richness with acidity and crunch. The hoisin glaze and sriracha tied everything together with sweetness and heat.

Crispy corn, surprisingly, became one of our favourites. Lightly battered and fried until golden, then tossed in a seasoning that hit salty, spicy, and slightly sweet notes, it was dangerously addictive. It disappeared far too quickly, and I regret not ordering it again sooner.

There’s always that joke back in New Zealand that “Indians don’t really do butter chicken,” so I also made it a point to try the ICB chicken butter masala. The sauce was creamy and fragrant, with just enough tomato tang and spice to keep it balanced rather than cloying. Paired with butter garlic naan, it was comforting in the best way, familiar, rich, and executed well.

Craft Beer: The Heart of the Experience

As expected, the beer is the star here. Pricing felt very fair, with 250 ml pours around ₹200 and 500 ml around ₹350. The beers were generally crisp, refreshing, and well served.

Two that stood out were Wit Maga, a Belgian-style witbier with a local twist that felt light, citrusy, and perfect for warm evenings, and Gose Garu, a playful interpretation that blended German gose inspiration with regional character. Both were easy to drink yet interesting enough to keep you engaged.

That said, there was one off night where a beer tasted stale. We decided not to finish it and ordered something else instead. Unfortunately, the next day three of us experienced stomach issues, which was the only common thing we had consumed. It appeared to be an isolated incident across many visits, but it’s worth mentioning for transparency.

Why We Kept Coming Back

What surprised me most was how this place started to feel like home. Across our group of seven colleagues, none of us planned to meet here every night, yet somehow we kept running into each other. One drink turned into two, conversations stretched longer, and the evenings ended on a relaxed note before heading off to sleep.

Indian Craft Brewery manages to strike a balance that’s hard to get right. It’s big and impressive without feeling cold, lively without being exhausting, and polished without losing warmth. Food is generally solid, beer is excellent, service is reliable, and the ambience does most of the heavy lifting.

Even though we technically had free nightly drinks at the Hilton, we still chose to come here. That alone says a lot.

Final Thoughts

Indian Craft Brewery is more than just a place to eat and drink, it’s an experience. From its beautiful setting near Manyata Tech Park to its wide selection of craft beers and comforting food, it delivers on almost every front. While there was one unfortunate hiccup with food consistency, the overall experience across multiple visits remained overwhelmingly positive.

If you’re in Bengaluru and looking for a place that combines good beer, generous space, strong ambience, and dependable service, this should be high on your list. For us, it wasn’t just a recommendation, it became a ritual.

I pride myself on being a pretty honest person – I did say ‘Bengaluru’ ? Pretty out-of-date as I remember this city in Karnataka as Bangalore! Mr Google solved the ‘problem’! Love the dishes you have shown and the appetizing simple way they have been served. The tandoori lamb and pork bao definitely attract . . . Am a wine and not a beer drinker but enjoyed your descriptions .. .and some of the names like ‘Rowdy Stout’ and ‘Ale is well’ – good local humour and a bit of fun as far as the . . . . . go :) ?
