Ba Na Hills can feel like a dreamscape floating above the clouds, cool air, panoramic views and European-style streets perched high in the Trường Sơn Mountains. Originally built as a French hill station in 1919, it has evolved into Sun World Ba Na Hills, a sprawling attraction crowned by the iconic Golden Bridge supported by giant stone hands. I wasn’t convinced at first; I half-expected another theme-park-style overload, but once we got up there the whole place exceeded my expectations.
We visited during our recent vacation in Hoi An, and part of our ticket included dining at Beer Plaza, one of the most recognisable buildings in the French Village. Designed like a massive golden beer barrel, the structure looks almost surreal against the mountain backdrop. Inside, it becomes clear this isn’t your typical buffet spot, it’s a full-blown beer hall with live stage performances, multi-level seating, and a lively, festive atmosphere.

Walking into Beer Plaza feels like stepping into a giant, shining keg. Light bounces off mirrored panels, music plays nonstop from the central stage and families, tour groups and couples fill the hall. It’s loud, busy, and energetic. If you want a quiet dining experience, this isn’t the place. If you want a fun break in between sightseeing, it does the job perfectly.
Since the buffet was included in our ticket, my wife and I dived straight in. Our plan was simple: try as much as we could without rolling out of the place. It’s harder than it sounds, Beer Plaza is enormous and the buffet selection can overwhelm anyone with its variety.
What We Ate
We sampled dishes from different stations, just enough to get a feel for what Beer Plaza does well.
- Pizza surprised us the most. It had a crisp base and generous toppings, the kind that goes hand-in-hand with a cold beer.
- Seafood Curry was fragrant with mild spice, filled with shrimp, squid and fish that held their shape.
- Clams and Fish were lightly seasoned and cooked simply, giving a clean, briny hit that tasted fresh.
- Fried Chicken didn’t try to be anything fancy. It was crispy, juicy, and exactly the comfort food we needed after a morning of walking.
- Spaghetti came with a straightforward tomato sauce, nothing groundbreaking but satisfying nonetheless.
- Steak, however, was the highlight in terms of fun. It’s cooked on baking paper on a flat grill, a quirky method to watch. Once plated, it tasted better than expected, tougher? off course as they overcook it.
There are countless other dishes, grilled meats, seafood, German-style sausages, stir-fries, salads, soups, breads, pastries, tropical fruits, and ice cream. You’ll never get through everything in one visit, but tasting across the spread gives a good idea of Beer Plaza’s strengths.
Vietnam’s Highest Brewery in Your Buffet Ticket
One detail that sets Beer Plaza apart is its beer. The adult ticket we got includes six pints of craft beer. Six! I only managed three and gave the remaining stubs to our Grab driver so he could share them with future passengers heading to Ba Na Hills. He was thrilled to accept them.
All the beer comes from Sun KraftBeer, brewed on-site at the Ba Na Brew House. Sitting at about 1,400 metres above sea level, it’s officially the highest brewery in Vietnam. Their recipes are created in collaboration with German brewing company Camba Bavaria, so the style leans clean, crisp, and European.
Beers on Tap
- Golden Bridge Helles Lager – Light, refreshing and very easy to drink. Ideal for pizza, fried chicken, or grilled meats.
- Atlas Wings Dark Lager – A richer beer with caramel and roasted malt notes. Works well with sausages or anything smoky.
- Lunar Castle Dry Hop Pale Ale – Hoppier and aromatic with gentle bitterness. Best with seafood or anything fried.
With all those choices and a lively atmosphere, the beer hall theme suddenly makes perfect sense.
A Fun Break in a Surreal Destination
Beer Plaza won’t give you a fine-dining experience. It gives you something better suited to the location, a lively, over-the-top beer hall high in the mountains where live performances meet endless food and cold beer brewed just metres away. After stepping back outside into the cool Ba Na air, with the French-inspired village around us and mist rolling across the mountains, the whole experience felt uniquely memorable.
For anyone visiting Ba Na Hills, Beer Plaza is a worthwhile stop for lunch or dinner. Come hungry, grab a pint, and enjoy the spectacle.
