Tucked on the outskirts of the old town sits Ha Noi Old Restaurant, a serene spot where you can enjoy authentic Vietnamese food while gazing out over endless green rice paddies.

Located at 110 Lý Thái Tổ, this restaurant is about a five-minute drive or a 25-minute walk from the centre of Hội An. It’s far enough from the crowds to feel peaceful but still easy to reach by scooter or Grab. The space is large, airy, and beautifully designed, traditional wooden interiors, high ceilings, and rustic décor that echoes the charm of old Vietnam.

We arrived just before sunset when the fields glowed gold under the fading light. Sitting out back with a 15k beer in hand, overlooking the countryside, honestly, what could be better?

First Impressions and Ambience

The restaurant strikes the perfect balance between casual comfort and refined style. Inside, the décor showcases traditional craftsmanship, bamboo lamps, terracotta pots, and dark wood furniture, while outside, a breezy open-air terrace lets you soak up the view.

It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a quiet dinner with family, a romantic evening with a view, or even a laid-back solo meal with a good book. The staff were warm and efficient, greeting us with genuine smiles and quickly setting us up with drinks. Service was prompt without feeling rushed, and despite being a bit pricier than the usual street food spots, the overall experience made it worth every đồng.

Cooling Off with Local Drinks

We started with a Huda Gold (Bottle) for 25,000 VND, light, crisp, and exactly what we needed in the humid air. For something non-alcoholic, the Mango Smoothie (35,000 VND) was a winner: thick, rich, and naturally sweet. It was like drinking sunshine, made from ripe, fragrant mangoes that tasted freshly blended.

A bright, crunchy salad that danced between sweet, sour, and savoury. The shredded papaya was crisp and refreshing, paired with tender pork and juicy shrimp, all tied together with a tangy dressing. A perfect start.

Fried Red Tilapia with Mango Sauce (139,000 VND)
This dish stole the show. The tilapia was fried to golden perfection, its crisp skin, including the scales (yes they cook it here) giving way to moist, delicate flesh. The mango sauce added a tropical twist, sweet, tangy, and just a little spicy. Easily one of the best fish dishes we had in Hội An.

Grilled Apple Snails with Green Pepper (139,000 VND)
A must-try for the adventurous eater. The snails were smoky, slightly chewy, and bursting with umami. The green pepper added gentle heat and aroma, a distinct flavour that’s both earthy and local. It’s the kind of dish that connects you directly to the Vietnamese countryside.

Crispy Fried Tofu with Lemongrass and Scallions (59,000 VND)
Don’t underestimate the humble tofu. Crispy outside, soft inside, it was the perfect balance of texture and fragrance, elevated by aromatic lemongrass and scallions. A great choice for vegetarians or anyone looking for something light yet satisfying.

Golden Hour Over the Rice Fields

By the time our plates were cleared, the sun had melted into the horizon, casting a golden hue over the rice paddies. The gentle breeze carried the scent of grilled seafood and fresh herbs. Locals chatted over their meals while a few travellers quietly admired the view.

The setting made the meal even more memorable. There’s something about eating fresh Vietnamese food while watching farmers tend to their fields that feels grounding, like being reminded of where your food truly comes from.
