Jinweide Beef Noodles (Albany, North Shore City, New Zealand)

Jinweide in Albany, Auckland offers hearty, flavourful hand-pulled noodles, and Sichuan-style dishes at fantastic prices in a casual setting.  Can’t believe I walked past this place so many times! The hand-pulled noodles are spot on, and that chilli oil? Game changer.

Jinweide has always been one of those places I noticed but never quite entered. Perched on the corner of Corinthian Drive in Albany, it’s hard to miss—especially with the striking bronze statue of a chef pulling noodles right out front. Yet despite its high visibility, I just kept walking past. I guess the stars finally aligned when my daughter noticed their $8.80 hand-pulled noodle promo and decided to give it a shot. She came home with some of their steamed buns, which I really liked—so naturally, my curiosity got the better of me.

Next thing I knew, the whole family was heading over to see what the fuss was about.

Casual, Fast, and Full of Flavour

The place runs like a well-oiled machine. You order and pay at the counter, grab your own cutlery and water, and within minutes, the food starts rolling out. Despite how busy it was, service was impressively fast. And watching the noodle makers in action—live, behind the glass—is a bit of theatre in itself.

Their menu leans heavily on flavours from Chengdu and Chongqing, which means big, bold, spicy dishes and deeply comforting bowls of broth. While the decor is simple and functional, the energy is all about the food—and the food delivers.

What We Tried

We kicked things off with the Soup Noodle with Beef Bone (NZ$19.99). If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for bony cuts of meat. This one came with a meaty, slightly chewy beef bone—flavourful, though not quite as tender as I had hoped. The broth was warming and nicely seasoned, and the noodles had a brilliant texture—chewy in the best way.

Next up was the Braised Beef Noodles with Soup (NZ$17.99), which used the same broth and hand-pulled noodles. The difference was the beef—tender, hearty slices that really soaked up the broth’s savoury depth. This bowl had all the comfort of a home-cooked meal, but with the precision and consistency of a restaurant dish.

We also gave the Mapo Tofu Rice Bowl (NZ$15.99) a go. It had that perfect Sichuan kick—bold and warming without overwhelming the palate. The portion was generous, too.

The Lamb Skewers (NZ$9.99 for 5) were a surprise highlight. Meatier than what you’d usually get at your typical Chinese restaurant, these skewers were well-seasoned and cooked just right—juicy with a nice char.

As a side, we ordered the Shredded Tofu Salad, a refreshing contrast to the heavier mains. Don’t forget to help yourself to their house-made chilli oil—it’s deeply fragrant and elevates just about every dish it touches.

A Noodle-Lover’s Haven

The hand-pulled noodles really are the star of the show here. You can even choose your preferred noodle thickness, which adds a nice layer of personalisation. Every bowl feels like it was made with care, and the portions are generous enough for one—sometimes even two—people.

What I appreciated most was how comforting and hearty everything felt. This is the kind of food that warms you up from the inside out, especially on a chilly Auckland night.

Final Thoughts

Jinweide isn’t trying to be flashy—it’s just quietly excellent at what it does. Great food, good prices, fast service, and a menu that’s got both familiarity and a few unexpected gems. Whether you’re after a cheap-and-cheerful $8.80 bowl or something more substantial like the beef bone soup, you’ll leave full and satisfied.

It took me far too long to walk through those doors, but now that I have, I can safely say this place is worth the hype—and I’ll definitely be back for more.

Wish this was closer – love the look of all you have shown! The pulled noodles look great, but, being the lamb lover I am, could reach for the skewers now for breakfast!
