Cruising on the Carnival Radiance isn’t just about breathtaking destinations – it’s a culinary journey too! One of the highlights of our trip was the Sunset Restaurant, one of the main dining rooms that promised (and delivered) a memorable dining experience. After reviewing the Lido Marketplace buffet earlier in the week, here we are reviewing a seated, three-course dinner at Sunset, and it did not disappoint. Here’s a look at our experience and why Sunset is a must-try for anyone cruising on the Radiance.
Welcoming Ambience and Top-notch Service
From the moment you enter, Sunset Restaurant greets you with its elegant yet relaxed vibe. The tables are beautifully set, removing any need to worry about where the fork goes – a simple but thoughtful touch. There’s an unpretentious charm here; although the setting is formal, the atmosphere is relaxed. In fact, you might even catch waiters dancing around tables, adding a dash of fun to the meal and quite interesting at the same time! The staff are incredibly attentive, and they bring a warm, enthusiastic energy that makes each dining experience feel unique.
A Menu That Changes Nightly
One of the best parts about dining at Sunset is the nightly menu rotation. With something fresh and different each evening, you’re guaranteed not to get bored. We went on a night that featured a mix of classic Carnival dishes and new selections by Emeril Lagasse and Carnival’s in-house chefs. I was impressed by how the menu managed to cater to all preferences – from rich meats to fresh seafood, vegetarian options, and even a few surprises. For those with a heartier appetite, extra appetisers or main dishes are available upon request, free of charge, which was a fantastic perk.
Standout Dishes We Tried
Starters: We kicked things off with some of the restaurant’s signature appetisers. The Roasted Duck Rolls wrapped in rice paper with a sweet garlic sauce quickly became a favourite. Another standout was the Pappardelle with Braised Lamb – a savoury pasta dish that packed in loads of flavour with its creamy tomato sauce, garlic, and parsley.
Main Course: I opted for the 12-Hour Braised Short Rib, a melt-in-the-mouth masterpiece served with chive mashed potatoes and green beans, finished off with a decadent truffle au jus. This was undoubtedly my favourite – the beef was tender, with flavours that were deeply satisfying. We also tried the Szechuan Shrimp, which brought a great kick with its scallion and garlic-laced sauce, and a grilled Striploin Steak that was elevated with a creamy peppercorn sauce.
Desserts: No dinner at Sunset would be complete without indulging in dessert. We tried a few selections, including a classic Cheesecake with Strawberry Sauce and Carnival’s famous Melting Chocolate Cake. But the cheese plate, served with five varieties of cheese, toast, and fruit preserves, stole the show – it was a fantastic way to round off the evening.
Dining Options and Flexibility
Sunset Restaurant offers several dining options, so whether you prefer a scheduled dining time or a flexible arrangement, there’s a setup for you. You can choose Early or Late Dining with reserved seating or opt for Your Time Dining, which allows you to dine whenever you’re hungry. This level of flexibility adds an extra layer of convenience, especially after a day full of ship activities.
Final Thoughts
Dining at Sunset Restaurant was one of the highlights of our time on Carnival Radiance. The mix of high-quality dishes, rotating menus, and upbeat atmosphere really made it a memorable experience. If you’re cruising with Carnival Radiance, I’d highly recommend making time for a three-course dinner at Sunset – you won’t regret it. With fantastic food, exceptional service, and a playful vibe, Sunset Restaurant encapsulates everything that makes dining on a Carnival cruise truly enjoyable.

I’ve long been skeptical of cruise ship cuisine, and never felt inspired by the menus, but this is next level! That genuinely looks better than many restaurants on land. Now I want to go on a cruise just to eat!
I think its still not as vegan friendly as it should be (not a lot of options), at least for the cruises I had tried. Perhaps there is a vegan approved cruise excursions, I am sure there will be a big market for it.
