Quite a late post as I forgot I had these photos on my camera, but like many say, better late than never! In fact, we tried Kika’s Kitchen North Shore more than two months ago. When I first saw this place in North Shore, I was thrilled. Having had an amazing experience at their West Auckland branch, I knew this was a treat for any meat lover out there.
Kika’s Kitchen is a Brazilian barbecue, snack, and dessert place where they serve traditional Brazilian Churrasco, meat cooked with charcoal just like in Brazil. The North Shore branch is larger, cleaner, and more modern than the West Auckland one. The menu here is presented in a unique way, shaped like the map of Brazil, which I found to be a nice touch. While the dishes are similar, there are subtle differences. Here, most dishes are served as a set with rice and salad, whereas the West branch offers sides separately, possibly because we visited on a Sunday when the menu might differ.
During our visit, we tried the following:
Steak and Mushroom Sauce (NZ$22.00): Grilled Picanha (Rump cap) served with your choice of green salad, mashed potato, or fries. The mushroom sauce on the steak was creamy and flavourful, complementing the perfectly cooked picanha.
Picanha ou Frango a Cavalo (NZ$29.00): A traditional Brazilian dish served with rice, beans, fries, salad, a fried egg, onions, and picanha. This dish was a hit, with each component adding to the overall flavour profile.
Pancetta Assada (NZ$26.00): Double roasted pork belly, served with rice, beans, fries, and salad. The pork belly was succulent and well-seasoned, making it a standout dish.
Algadinho (NZ$8.50 for a portion of 5): Brazilian snacks served with Kika’s Chicken, Beef, Ham and Cheese, and Cheese and Oregano. These were delightful little bites, perfect for starting off our meal.
One thing that stood out was the portion sizes. They were even larger than what we had in West Auckland. For example, the pork belly here came with three large slices instead of two. The rice was incredibly tasty, reminiscent of the rice served with Hainanese Chicken Rice, flavourful enough to be enjoyed on its own.
The atmosphere at Kika’s Kitchen North Shore is vibrant and welcoming. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. The restaurant’s decor, from the clean and modern design to the Brazilian map-shaped menu, created a pleasant dining environment.
An interesting aspect of our visit was the interaction with the Brazilian waitress, who joined our conversation with my Spanish-speaking colleagues. It was a fun exchange comparing different Spanish pronunciations from Argentina, Colombia, and even the Filipino version. Despite Brazilians speaking Portuguese, there were several similarities with Spanish. This little linguistic adventure added a unique touch to our meal.
Dining at Kika’s North Shore was a spectacular experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and a lively atmosphere that set the stage for a memorable dining experience. The barbecue was the star of the show, with each cut of meat grilled to perfection. The picanha was especially remarkable tender, flavourful, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
