Briefly stopping by at this very popular cafe in Parnell for their famous toast after a nice walk around the area and into Auckland Domain was a delightful experience. Rhu offers unique twists on typical brunch dishes, making it a must-visit spot.
Rhu exudes a casual yet chic vibe with a trendy Scandinavian style. The design is clean, featuring large landing windows, invisible signage, and an overall simplicity that is both refreshing and inviting. The decor, including the cutlery and couches, is beautiful and elevates the dining space. While it was tight inside due to its small space, it did not feel that way due to its clean airy ambiance.
The menu may not be extensive, but it doesn’t disappoint. We tried the Salmon Rillette on Toast with salmon roe and the Honey Toast with vanilla yoghurt and fig.
Salmon Rillette on Toast, Salmon Roe (NZ$25.00), the rillette was delicious and well-executed (look how pretty that looks), offering a unique savoury brunch option that matches really well with our second order.
Honey Toast, Vanilla Yoghurt, Fig (NZ$22.00), the honey toast was the highlight for us. The vanilla yoghurt and the figs were super light and complemented the honey toast perfectly. 100% recommend this dish.
The service was prompt and attentive, reminiscent of a five-star hotel. Food was served quickly, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Rhu, I believe is also dog-friendly, making it a great spot for pet owners.
The food was absolutely delicious, though we found the portions a bit small for the price. The expertise and effort behind each dish and pastry are evident, making it a worthwhile visit. However, for those with a hearty appetite, the portions might feel insufficient.
Rhu ticks all the boxes for a chic brunch spot with well-executed dishes and excellent service. It’s perfect for those looking to enjoy a posh breakfast experience. If you’re in Parnell, give Rhu a try – you won’t regret it. But if you’re after larger portions and more value for money, you might want to look elsewhere.

Wow, the presentation is amazing! That Salmon Rillette looks like something out of a magazine. I’d order it just based on looks alone, but it also sounds like it was quite tasty, too.
