Who can resist the allure of crispy, flavour-packed chicken wings? Whether it’s Southern-style fried chicken, Korean fried chicken or the iconic wings from your favourite Chinese takeout joint, there’s something undeniably satisfying about sinking your teeth into perfectly fried goodness.

With our recipe, we’re bringing the best of both worlds to your table. These Chinese-inspired wings are a testament to the power of simple ingredients and bold flavours, delivering a taste sensation that’s sure to leave you craving more.

What sets Chinese fried chicken apart? It’s all in the marinade. Infused with garlic, ginger, soy sauce, hoisin, sugar, sesame oil, chilli, and vinegar, our marinade creates a sweet-spicy-tangy mixture that penetrates every inch of the chicken, infusing it with layers of flavour.

But we don’t stop there. After marinating, the chicken pieces are coated in cornstarch, creating a light, crispy crust that locks in the succulent juiciness of the meat. The result? Chicken wings that are perfectly seasoned, irresistibly crunchy, and bursting with bold Asian flair.

While Chinese takeout may be convenient, there’s something special about recreating your favourite dishes at home. With our recipe, you can enjoy the familiar flavours of your go-to takeout joint from the comfort of your own kitchen.

And the best part? These are incredibly easy to make. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of prep time, you can have restaurant-quality wings on the table in no time.

Whether you’re serving them up as a crowd-pleasing appetizer or enjoying them as a satisfying main course, these fried chicken wings are guaranteed to hit the spot. Crispy, flavourful, and downright addictive, they’re the ultimate comfort food indulgence.

Units Scale

  • 1 kg chicken wings
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • oil, for frying
  • salt

  1. In a large bowl, combine all marinade ingredient together. Mix well to combine.
  2. Add the chicken wings to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavours to meld.
  3. Remove the marinated chicken wings from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  4. Place cornstarch in a shallow dish. Remove each chicken wing from the marinade, allowing any excess marinade to drip off, and coat evenly in the cornstarch. Shake off any excess cornstarch and place the wings on a wire rack set over a baking sheet.
  5. In a large wok or deep fryer heat oil to 180°C. Working in batches, carefully add the chicken wings to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot.
  6. Fry the wings for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried wings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with salt while still hot.
  7. Serve.

  • This marinade does sound quite spicy to my liking yet so complex in terms of flavour! While chicken wings aren't my favourite part (not as much meat lol!), these look perfectly cooked and so inviting! :)

  • That marinade is worth its weight in gold. You can't beat the combination of savoy, sweet, and spicy going on here! I'd use that on everything, from protein to veggies, and then use the leftovers to cook rice. Nothing goes to waste!

  • You had me at chicken wings! :-) We love wings around here - no matter the style or flavor. It's been a long time since we've done wings with Asian flavors. This marinade sounds like a secret weapon!!

  • OK, here’s the thing… I don’t really like chicken wings. They seem like too much work for what little meat you get off them. But I would love these made with the little drumsticks. I bet they’d be fantastic.
