Units Scale


  • 1 kg chicken wings
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • oil, for frying
  • salt



  1. In a large bowl, combine all marinade ingredient together. Mix well to combine.
  2. Add the chicken wings to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavours to meld.
  3. Remove the marinated chicken wings from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  4. Place cornstarch in a shallow dish. Remove each chicken wing from the marinade, allowing any excess marinade to drip off, and coat evenly in the cornstarch. Shake off any excess cornstarch and place the wings on a wire rack set over a baking sheet.
  5. In a large wok or deep fryer heat oil to 180°C. Working in batches, carefully add the chicken wings to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot.
  6. Fry the wings for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried wings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with salt while still hot.
  7. Serve.

  2. This marinade does sound quite spicy to my liking yet so complex in terms of flavour! While chicken wings aren’t my favourite part (not as much meat lol!), these look perfectly cooked and so inviting! :)

    That marinade is worth its weight in gold. You can’t beat the combination of savoy, sweet, and spicy going on here! I’d use that on everything, from protein to veggies, and then use the leftovers to cook rice. Nothing goes to waste!

  4. You had me at chicken wings! :-) We love wings around here – no matter the style or flavor. It’s been a long time since we’ve done wings with Asian flavors. This marinade sounds like a secret weapon!!

  5. OK, here’s the thing… I don’t really like chicken wings. They seem like too much work for what little meat you get off them. But I would love these made with the little drumsticks. I bet they’d be fantastic.
