Description

Take your fried tilapia to new heights with our Chilli Butter Garlic Tilapia recipe! A flavourful twist on a Filipino Fried Tilapia.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 pcs tilapia, cleaned
  • 1 small red capsicum, finely diced
  • 1 whole garlic, minced
  • 2 small shallots, minced
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup chili garlic oil
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • oil

Instructions

  1. Season the tilapia with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  2. Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large skillet over medium heat. Deep-fry the tilapia until it is golden and crispy, about 10 minutes. Drain the fried tilapia on paper towels and set it aside to keep warm.
  3. In a large wok, heat oil over medium heat. Sauté the minced garlic and shallots until they become fragrant, which takes about 4 minutes.
  4. Add the finely diced red capsicum to the pot and sauté for an additional 30 seconds.
  5. Stir in the butter, chili oil, and oyster sauce. Mix well until the butter is completely melted and the mixture starts to simmer.
  6. Add the sugar, salt, and pepper to the pot. Stir continuously until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  7. Carefully add the fried tilapia to the pot and toss it in the sauce until it is evenly coated.
  8. Transfer the chili butter garlic tilapia to a serving platter.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!

  • This sounds wonderful. I have about a liter of chili oil I made last year still in my fridge. I’m ready! Great photo.

  • Innovation and creativity are what keeps our meals from becoming boring over the years. Your chili and garlic butter sauce has to bring fried fish to a spicy new taste sensation.

  • This tilapia looks absolutely mouthwatering and perfectly cooked. It might be quite challenging to make fish looks beautiful in a photo, but if I may say - it looks sexy!
