Embark on a culinary journey at 1981 Noodle House! 🍜 From hand-pulled noodles to rich beef broth, each bite is pure bliss. #NoodleHeavenIndulge in authentic Lanzhou beef noodles at 1981 Noodle House Albany. Hand-pulled noodles, savoury broth, and tender beef await!

Step into the taste of Lanzhou at 1981 Noodle House in Albany! With a focus on hand-pulled noodles and authentic flavours, this eatery offers a culinary journey like no other.

Lanzhou beef noodles are famed for their hand-pulled noodles, boasting a perfect blend of chewiness and tenderness. At 1981 Noodle House, each strand is meticulously crafted to capture the essence of traditional Lanzhou noodle-making techniques.

But it’s not just about the noodles—the savoury beef broth and tender slices of beef elevate the dining experience to new heights of satisfaction.

One of the unique features of 1981 Noodle House is the ability to customise your noodle dish by choosing from six different thicknesses of noodles. Whether you prefer silky and delicate or wide and springy, there’s a noodle option to suit every palate.

There are six different thicknesses of noodles to choose from, each offering its own texture and mouthfeel:

Mao Xi (Silky and Delicate): These noodles are known for their fine and delicate texture, almost silk-like in appearance. They’re perfect for those who prefer a lighter noodle experience, as they effortlessly soak up the flavours of the broth.

Er Xi (Classic and Al Dente): These noodles strike the perfect balance between chewy and firm, offering a classic noodle experience with just the right amount of bite. They’re versatile and pair well with a variety of broths and toppings.

Xi (Fine and Slurpy): If you enjoy slurping up noodles with gusto, the Xi noodles are for you! Slightly thicker than the Er Xi noodles, they offer a satisfying slurpiness and are ideal for soaking up rich and flavourful broths.

Jiu Ye (Flat and Subtle): These wider noodles have a subtle thickness, offering a hearty and comforting noodle experience. Their flat shape provides a larger surface area for soaking up sauces and broths, making them perfect for savoury dishes.

San Xi (Plump and Tender): The San Xi noodles are plump and tender, with a thicker texture that adds a satisfying chewiness to each bite. They’re robust enough to stand up to hearty broths and meaty toppings, making them a favourite among noodle enthusiasts.

Kuan (Wide and Springy): For those who crave a more substantial noodle experience, the Kuan noodles are the perfect choice. These wide noodles are springy and resilient, offering a satisfying chewiness that pairs well with bold and spicy flavours.

During my visit, I savoured the following dishes:

Braised Beef Noodle Soup (NZ$21.80): A comforting bowl of noodles with generous beef chunks, perfectly complemented by the rich and savoury broth. We opted for San Xi on this one.

Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (NZ$21.80): For those who love a kick of spice, this dish delivers with its bold flavours and tender beef slices. We opted for Kuan on this one.

Mango Green Tea (NZ$8.00): A refreshing beverage with real mango chunks, adding a burst of tropical flavour to the meal.

The dining experience at 1981 Noodle House is not just about the food—it’s about the atmosphere too. The clean, bright, and spacious interior creates a welcoming environment, while the open kitchen allows diners to witness the noodle-making process firsthand.

From the quick service to the flavourful broth and tender meat, every aspect of the meal is thoughtfully executed. While the prices may be slightly higher, the quality and authenticity of the food make it well worth the visit.

Overall, 1981 Noodle House is a must-visit destination for noodle lovers in Albany. Whether you’re craving classic comfort food or bold, spicy flavours, this eatery has something to satisfy every craving. 1981 Noodle House offers a truly remarkable dining experience, with its hand-pulled noodles, rich broths, and welcoming atmosphere. While many may dub it the best beef noodle spot in town—and rightfully so—my heart still yearns for the comfort of homemade braised beef noodles. Nevertheless, 1981 Noodle House remains a top contender for those seeking an authentic and satisfying noodle fix.

Those flat noodles look amazing!! Very rare to find that style used in soup, in my experience. They’re always my favorite and I’d love to try that.
