Whitby’s Buffet Breakfast (Wellington CBD, New Zealand)

🍳 Substandard breakfast experience at Whitby’s Restaurant & Bar 🥓 Despite a dated ambiance, friendly staff, and a live cooking station, the food selection and quality fell short of expectations. Next time, I’ll be heading to a local cafe for a tastier start to the day! 🥞 #WhitbysRestaurant #BreakfastBuffet #JamesCookHotel #WellingtonEats 🍽️ Experience Whitby’s Restaurant & Bar’s breakfast buffet at James Cook Hotel. Despite friendly staff, the food selection and quality were below par.

I recently had the opportunity to experience the breakfast buffet at Whitby’s Restaurant & Bar, located on the 17th floor of the James Cook hotel during a business trip. The buffet offered a variety of classic breakfast items such as bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, and hash browns, alongside fruit juices, fruits, and a live cooking station where the chef would prepare eggs to your liking.

Upon entering the restaurant, I was struck by the dated atmosphere reminiscent of the 80s, with a lack of vibrant ambiance. The dining area was spacious, with ample seating, and the staff were friendly and professional.

While the concept of an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet sounded promising, I found the food to be disappointing. Despite the reasonable price of NZ$35.00, the selection was poor, and the quality of the dishes ranged from average to below par. Although the eggs cooked to order were a nice touch, the overall presentation and taste left much to be desired.

One of the major drawbacks was the lack of variety in the menu, with the same breakfast offerings available every day. For guests staying at the hotel for an extended period, this could become monotonous and uninspiring.

While Whitby’s Restaurant & Bar may offer a convenient breakfast option for hotel guests, I would recommend exploring the local cafes in Wellington for a better culinary experience at a more affordable price.
