Ingredients
Units Scale
- 250 g elbow macaroni
- 350 g minced beef
- 4 strips bacon
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
- oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- freshly ground black pepper
- ketchup (as a condiment)
Instructions
- Season minced beef with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Heat a pan over medium heat, add oil. Once hot, add the minced beef, flatten like a big patty, then leave it untouched for 6 minutes. Break the patty into randomly sized chunks, then turn it over and cook for an additional 3 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside, reserving oil.
- In the same pan, add oil, then cook bacon strips until crispy on both sides. Remove bacon from the pan, let it cool, then chop it into smaller pieces. Set aside.
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook elbow macaroni in the boiling water, stirring occasionally until cooked through but firm to the bite, about 8 minutes.
- At the same time, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add flour, salt, and pepper, and stir until smooth, about 5 minutes.
- Pour in milk slowly while stirring continuously. Continue to cook and stir until the mixture is smooth and bubbling, about 5 minutes, making sure the milk doesn’t burn.
- Add Cheddar cheese and stir until melted, 2 to 4 minutes.
- Drain macaroni and fold it into the cheese sauce until coated.
- Add the minced beef and a bit of the reserved oil into the cheese sauce-coated macaroni, toss and fold.
- Place on a serving platter, drizzle with chopped bacon.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
