Dragon Den Hot Pot (Albany, North Shore City, New Zealand)

There’s something truly magical about the experience of a hot pot meal – the sizzle of fresh ingredients meeting the simmering broth, the camaraderie shared around a steaming pot, and the burst of flavours that evolve with every dip. A recent culinary escapade led me to Dragon Den Hot Pot on Corinthian Drive in Albany North Shore. From the moment I stepped in, I knew I had stumbled upon a hidden gem that encapsulates the essence of authentic Chinese hot pot.

It was a casual lunch visit that turned into a delightful gastronomic journey. The ambiance of Dragon Den Hot Pot was as inviting as the promise of the culinary experience that awaited. Nestled in cozy surroundings, the restaurant exudes a welcoming vibe that sets the tone for what’s to come.

If you’re a true food enthusiast, Dragon Den Hot Pot is a place to behold. The lunch set menu for two is nothing short of extraordinary. From the very start, it’s clear that this place values authenticity, both in its cuisine and in the warmth of its service.

Having explored various hot pot places around Auckland, I can confidently say that Dragon Den stands among the best. Portion sizes are generous, and the freshness of ingredients is undeniable. What truly stood out was their special soup broth, a potion that not only elevates the taste of the ingredients but is also delightful for sipping.

A touch that I appreciated was the waitress’s guidance in selecting the soups and ingredients. Her advice ensured that every choice we made was spot-on, creating a symphony of flavours that lingered long after the meal was over. The staff’s attentiveness was palpable, exemplifying the quality of service that often separates the exceptional from the ordinary.

Dragon Den Hot Pot’s aesthetics were equally captivating. The interior is a visual ode to Chinese design and culture, creating an atmosphere that complements the culinary journey. It’s a place where every aspect, from taste to sight, contributes to an unforgettable experience.

Their menu offers a range of options, making it perfect for both novices and seasoned hot pot enthusiasts. We opted for the Two Flavours Soup (NZ$16.00) with Mushroom and Mild variants. Complemented by premium ingredients, our choices included:

Premium Pork Slice (NZ$16.00)
Mushroom Combo (NZ$16.00)
Conch (NZ$18.00)
Basa Fish Fillet, Hand Cut Squid, and Baby Cuttlefish Combo (NZ$22.00)

We have lots here, sprouting out everywhere like mushrooms after the rain. Mot a fan, over-priced and they do not give good ingredients. I’d rather have my own steamboat at home.
