With an abundance of pizza options in the city, it wasn’t easy to decide. However, Proper Pizza stood out for a specific reason – they reserved tables for us, a rarity among pizza joints. Being conveniently located near our office was an added bonus. While it was among the pricier options, its reputation for unique flavours intrigued us.

As we stepped into Proper Pizza, the uniqueness of the place was palpable. In the world of pizza, we often categorize them into two groups – the authentic Italian variety and the more commercial, Westernized versions. However, Proper Pizza Company managed to bridge this gap by offering a selection of pizzas that are both fancy and innovative in their toppings. The surprise element? The incorporation of sesame into the crust, which added a distinct and delightful twist. The ambiance of the shop contributed to the experience – a relaxing vibe that was inviting and comfortable. The friendly demeanour of the staff further enhanced our visit.

But what about the food? In that aspect too, Proper Pizza didn’t disappoint. The orders arrived swiftly, which was a pleasant surprise given the bustling city vibe. The flavours burst forth as we indulged in the pizzas. And rest assured, we made a mental note to return and explore more of their pizza variations.

Let’s talk about choices. Proper Pizza offers a variety of sizes for their pizzas – 20 cm, 30 cm, 40 cm, a heart-shaped 40 cm, and an impressive 60 cm. The menu highlights a medley of unique pizza combinations, and this is what we got that day:

Black Truffle Pizza (40cm, $55.00): Proper cheese, special white sauce, grana padano, black truffle, fresh mushrooms, quality pecorino, provolone with pine nuts.

Meaty Macho Pizza (40cm, $51.00): Proper cheese, proper tomato base, supreme pastrami, Italian salami, mini meatballs, fresh yogurt sauce & chives.

Blue Vein Garlic Chicken Pizza (40cm, $55.00): Proper cheese, proper tomato base, premium chicken breast, blue vein, fresh garlic cubes, ranch sauce & cherry tomatoes.

The common thread? All their pizzas come with a Sesame Seeds crust, Proper Cheese, and their signature Proper Marinade Sauce. The pizza itself is crafted from fresh, high-quality ingredients. The crust boasts the ideal texture – crispy on the outside and delightfully chewy within. The toppings don’t hold back; they’re generously spread, and the flavours are harmoniously balanced.

But that’s not all. Proper Pizza Company flaunts a creative side with its dessert pizzas. The Circle of Life Pizza features banana, strawberries, kiwifruit, and Nutella topped with shaved almonds. The Apple Crumble Pizza presents a blend of spicy apple filling, fresh apple cubes, crushed butter biscuits, and a dollop of vanilla ice cream adorned with cinnamon. These dessert pizzas are out-of-the-ordinary and intriguingly delightful, but perhaps a tad unconventional for traditional Italian purists.

Amidst all these flavours, my personal favourite was the Black Truffle Pizza. Despite my initial scepticism, the pizza proved to be a culinary revelation. The balance of flavours, the crispiness, and the freshness of the ingredients came together harmoniously.
