As a self-professed SPAM® lover, I can’t help but be fascinated by the sheer variety of SPAM® flavours that are available today. From classic to exotic, there’s a SPAM® flavour for every taste preference out there. But did you know that there’s also a day dedicated to celebrating one of the most iconic SPAM® dishes out there? I’m talking about SPAM® Musubi Day, which is celebrated every year on August 8th, which is today!

For those who may not be familiar, SPAM® Musubi is a popular Hawaiian snack that combines SPAM® Classic, rice, and nori (dried seaweed) to create a delicious and easy-to-make treat. It’s a perfect on-the-go snack or lunch, and it’s a great way to enjoy the unique SPAM® flavour in a new and creative way. SPAM® Musubi has become a beloved snack around the world, and it’s no wonder that it has its own dedicated day of celebration.

In this post, I’ll be exploring some of the most popular SPAM® flavours and sharing my thoughts on each one. If Hawaii is the biggest consumer of SPAM® products, most probably the Philippines comes to a next second. As a Filipino this is quite close to my heart and a visit in Hawaii will not be complete without grabbing this at the local supermarkets.

SPAM® Oven Roasted Turkey: This variation of the original SPAM® flavour is made with 100% white, lean turkey instead of pork and ham. It has a slightly lighter taste and is perfect for those who prefer a leaner meat option.

The Limited/Collectors Editions

SPAM® Kimchi: A cross cultural special edition, this SPAM® flavour is inspired by Korean cuisine and is flavoured with the spicy and tangy taste of kimchi. It’s a great option for adding to stir-fries, fried rice, and other Korean-inspired dishes.

SPAM® 25% Less Soduim Hawaii Collection: A collectors limited edition that is similar to SPAM® 25% Less Sodium, with a hula doll on both sides of the can and a photo of three SPAM® Musubi in Kailua, Hawaii. It’s the perfect item to kick off your collection, as it encapsulates the true Hawaiian essence of the SPAM® Brand.

SPAM® Figgy Pudding: This limited-edition holiday flavour has a sweet and spiced fig taste, blended with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, and clove it’s the perfect SPAM® product for the winter season. It’s a unique and delicious canned meat that’s perfect for adding to your holiday recipes! Now, bring us some figgy pudding.

SPAM® Golden Honey Grail: This SPAM® flavour was released as a collector’s edition can to the first 100 fans in line when the box office opens for the SPAMALOT™ Musical ripped off from the Motion Picture Monty Python and the Holy Grail on December 6th, 2004. The can features SPAMALOT™ Musical graphics and characters from the musical, as well as instructions in “Spamalot-ese” on how to “cooketh” SPAM® products. It was then sold in limited quantities in February 2005 at select New York City retailers and the Shubert Theatre so good luck finding one.

SPAM® Pumpkin Spice: This limited-edition SPAM® flavour released on the first day of autumn of 23 September 2019 and was sold out in less than seven hours. A SPAM® variety that is perfect for the fall season, flavoured with the sweet and spicy taste of pumpkin spice and is a unique and delicious option for adding to your holiday recipes if you can source out one.

SPAM® with Stinky French Garlic Collectors Edition: To coincide with the London opening of the Monty Python SPAMALOT™ Musical, the makers of SPAM® products in the United Kingdom launched this “collector’s edition”. Almost similar concept to the SPAM® Golden Honey Grail and you can see this from the artwork of the can, but flavours are much different.   This SPAM® variety is flavoured with the strong and pungent taste of garlic, inspired by French cuisine.

The Others

SPAM® Fries: For a crispy and portable breaded SPAM® snack, try SPAM® Fries. These pre-formed SPAM® fries are perfect for on-the-go snacking and have a crispy exterior that’s perfect for dipping in your favourite sauces. As the can says it’s a “Fry Shaped Pork Fritters”

SPAM® Mezclita: This SPAM® flavoured pork and cheese spread is inspired by Puerto Rican cuisine and is made with blend of SPAM® classic, cheese and red pepper, best enjoyed between two pieces of nice crusty bread.

SPAM® Patties: These pre-formed SPAM® breaded patties are perfect for making quick and easy meals. They have the same great taste as the original SPAM® flavour and can be fried, air-fried or baked for a crispy exterior.

SPAM® Spread: Yes, you can spread a SPAM® product, this creamy and spreadable SPAM® version is perfect for adding to sandwiches, crackers, and other snacks. It has the same great taste as the original SPAM® flavour, but with a smoother pate like texture.
