Potstickers (Auckland CBD, New Zealand)

Auckland CBD is home to a plethora of restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world. However, there are some hidden gems that are not as well-known but offer fantastic food at reasonable prices. Potstickers in Swanson Street is one such restaurant that offers delicious and affordable Asian cuisine.

Upon entering Potstickers, you’ll be impressed by the large premises that can accommodate big groups. The place is clean, and the service is quick, making it an ideal spot for a quick lunch or a casual dinner with friends. It’s located in the heart of Auckland CBD, just behind New World, so it’s very convenient for those working in the area.

The prices at Potstickers are really affordable compared to other restaurants in Auckland, which is a huge plus. The serving sizes are also quite generous, so you’ll definitely leave feeling satisfied. In fact, the servings are reminiscent of the now-closed Golden Century Restaurant in Hobson Street, which was also known for its large servings and affordability.

One of the standout dishes at Potstickers is the Fish Fillets in Hot Chilli Oil on Rice Combo Meal (NZ$15.80). Despite its fiery appearance, the dish isn’t overly spicy, and the delicate fish is packed with flavour.

Another great combo meal option is the Mapo Tofu on Rice (NZ$15.80 ), it’s just is simply well-made and delicious, not as generous as the Fish Fillets though.

If you’re in the mood for noodles, the Dandan Noodles at Potstickers (NZ$13.80) are a must-try. These noodles are some of the best Dandan in Auckland. They’re slightly numbing from the Sichuan pepper corns but very flavourful but not overpowering, and the noodles themselves have a nice bite to them.

Of course, no Asian restaurant is complete without dumplings, and Potstickers certainly delivers in that department. The Steamed Pork Dumplings (NZ$10.80) are some of the tastiest dumplings you’ll ever try in Auckland. They’re plump, juicy, and the fillings overflow, making for a satisfying and delicious bite, they look pretty too!

Potstickers in Swanson Street, Auckland CBD is a hidden gem that offers delicious and affordable Asian cuisine which reminds me a lot of the closed Golden Century Restaurant in Hobson Street, our usual go to lunch place when I used to work near Upper Queen Street. With its large premises, quick service, and generous servings, it’s an ideal spot for a casual lunch or dinner with friends. The Fish Filets in Hot Chilli Oil on Rice Combo Meal, Mapo Tofu on Rice, Dandan Noodles, and Steamed Pork Dumplings are some of the standout dishes that you should definitely try. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Potstickers is definitely worth checking out.

I would eat dumplings any day and everyday if I could. This is my kind of place! That mapo tofu does also look amazing, too.
