Lime Orange (London, United Kingdom)

Located just a short 3-minute walk from Westminster Cathedral, Lime Orange Korean restaurant offers a unique blend of Korean and Japanese cuisine. With numerous Certificate of Excellence awards from TripAdvisor, we were eager to try this spot for ourselves.

The menu features a variety of traditional Korean dishes such as Bulgogi, Bibimbap, Jjambong, and Jjigae, as well as a selection of Japanese dishes with a twist, including Teriyaki, Kastu, Udon and Ramen. The restaurant may appear small from the outside, but it boasts ample seating inside. Despite its proximity to Victoria Station, we were fortunate enough to snag a few spare tables during our dinner visit.

We began with the Kimchi Jjigae (£11.90) a hearty stew made with spicy fermented Napa cabbage, pork, tofu, onions, garlic, and green onions. The flavours were authentic and well-balanced, though not as spicy as we had anticipated. The kimchi lent a satisfying sourness to the broth and there was a generous amount of kimchi, tofu, and thinly sliced pork. It was served in a traditional Korean hot stone pot, keeping it warm for a prolonged period of time, and came with perfectly cooked rice.

Next, we tried the Chicken Katsu Udon (£11.90), which consisted of stir-fried thick udon noodles with garlic, ginger, onion, pepper, sesame oil, and a homemade sauce, topped with crispy sweet and sour chicken katsu. While the udon noodles were cooked to perfection, the sauce overpowered the flavours of the noodles, making the combination less satisfying. The chicken katsu, however, was delicious- juicy, flavourful and with a nice crunchy breading.

To finish our meal, we had the Citrus Tea (£3.50) which had a marmalade-like taste and was a refreshing end to our meal.

In conclusion, Lime Orange is a great find for those looking for delicious and affordable Korean and Japanese cuisine. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was reasonably priced. Despite its unassuming exterior, this restaurant is definitely worth checking out.

  1. We’ve found TripAdvisor and Yelp to be our best friends when we’re traveling and looking for a good restaurant. We’ve been burned a few times by stopping in places without researching them first, but now a quick search on our phones and we’re good to go! This place sounds like it was delicious!
