Borough Market London – A Visual Essay

Borough Market is a historic food market located in Southwark, London, England with 1,000 years of history. It is one of the oldest and largest food markets in the city, dating back to the 12th century. The market is open from Wednesday to Saturday each week and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world.

The market is home to a wide range of food stalls, offering a diverse selection of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and specialty goods. There are also a number of restaurants, cafes, and pubs located within the market, offering a variety of cuisines and dining options.

One of the highlights of Borough Market is the abundance of fresh, local produce available. The market is known for its wide selection of seasonal fruits and vegetables that is very vibrant and fresh, as well as its selection of artisanal breads and pastries like savoury pies and sausage rolls. There are also stalls offering fresh meat, poultry, and seafood, as well as an array of cheeses, oils, and condiments, everything that you would expect in a nice market. What really got us excited is when we saw their seafood, the selection was amazing, it was pricey compared to New Zealand, but the variety was amazing.

We got to sample several food items in this market like the Bomba Paella, Portena Empanada, and some fresh juice, I will reserve its review on a different article as we will focus on the market in this Visual Essay.

In addition to the food stalls, Borough Market is also home to a number of specialty shops, offering everything from kitchen equipment and cookbooks to gifts and souvenirs. There are also a number of street performers and musicians who add to the lively atmosphere of the market in addition to the tourists like us who started to travel back after that long pandemic lockdown.

In summary, Borough Market is a must-visit destination for foodies, and anyone interested in experiencing the rich culinary history of London. The market offers a wide range of delicious food options and is a wonderful place to try new flavours and discover new ingredients. I haven’t taken many photos during this visit because I am in awe on the selection of food items available here and forgot at one point, I was a food blogger and need to take photos of what the market has to offer but nevertheless here is what we had captured on my phone.

  2. I love the Borough Market. We spent a week in London a couple of years ago — only went three times, but would have gone every day if I could have. Next time, our Airbnb will be in walking distance of the market!

  3. I have visited the market in the winter, spring, and fall, and it was such a treat!

Nice capture of the experience! The other unique place we loved shopping and viewing in London was the Columbia Road Flower Market.
