Dr Rudis (Auckland CBD, Auckland, New Zealand)
Were back again at this place and it feels odd, the last time we were here was Pre COVID and it was really vibrant and alive, this time around it felt desolated specially this last visit which we had at the end of March. We came back here becuase we always wanted to try their bowling alley, this is our fourth attempt but this time around it’s not the sheer number of people waiting for their turn that is hindering us but they totally closed it, not sure if it’s for the night or it is permanent.
The emptiness is quite good in some ways as this place during the days tend to be noisy as it can accommodate a lot of people, sometimes there are DJ’s and sometimes the music is just too loud, certainly not a good place before to have an intimate conversation, but now you can and we definitely picked the right place as we were here just winding down our weekend with some friends.
Food here is quite straightforward, one pager divided into favourites, vege friendly, and pizza, that’s it. Even the drinks menu is quite easy to look at too, one pager at the back of the food menu. These guys are famous for their 3-foot pizza, one of the very few places here who offer long pizza. Other call it metre pizza, at Rudi’s they offer it by the foot, so their biggest one here is short by 3.37 inches comparing to other brands. They also offer it in 1 foot and 2-foot versions, so if you don’t have that many friends or you don’t have that big hunger then you can opt out on the smaller variety.
Pizza was definitely on our order and we grabbed the Meat Lovers 3 foot (NZ$78.00), topped with pepperoni, ground beef, bacon, red onion and & mozzarella with BBQ sauce.
To complement that we had some Popcorn Squid salt & pepper squid with wasabi aioli (NZ$16.00)
as well as Rudi’s Free Range Fried Chicken (NZ$22.50) made with free-range marinated chicken thighs with japanese mayo & sriracha.
then to top it all off some Rudi’s Fries skin on shoestring fries served w/ aioli (NZ$12.00)
and those are the perfect food combo to pair with Lemon and Lime Bitter as well as numerous Tap Tiger Beers (NZ$14.00) glass that we had.
I bet this was the best visit so far, everything was perfect for us. The food was spot on, nothing was rushed as there were few diners at that time. The fries, the chicken, the squid were all fired perfectly. The pizza as well was prepared beautifully, of course it was good as well, great dough plus an ample amount of toppings that are not over powering. Service at the bar definitely was quick and overall service was fantastic, they even offered to take a photo of us after they saw us taking a group selfie.

That rectangular pizza looks like to die for and the squid and the chicken look awesome too!!! Hopefully, business will pick up soon and things will take a turn for the better.
Wow!! That massive pizza is clearly an attraction and prime photo op. I’m glad it tastes as good as it looks!
