The perfect summer drink! So delicious and refreshing. Mango Shake is a Filipino style smoothie prepared with Filipino mangoes, milk and ice blended to a smooth consistency

This is one of the drinks I grew up with. At the school where I attended my primary and high school education, this was a popular drink for the kids where our canteen sells all sorts of shakes like avocado, buko and our recipe for today. It was quite pricey back then, as a small cup would cost you PHP5.00 and that was during the 80’s, comparing it with a bottle of soda which was PHP2.00 or a very large Icee which was PHP5.00. Back then only rich kids can afford this drink so most opted for a Cola. I think the same problem is still existing today, where fresh real food that are healthy cost more than the heavily process junk food hence people just opt for the cheaper one but suffer in the long run. Anyways for me I opted for Coke but once in a while I buy this shake but I have to work for it by getting Cola bottles and returning it to the store, each bottle has a refund of PHP1.00, so if I get 5 then I have a mango shake, luckily the most kids are lazy enough to get their refund so I picked those bottles and earn something on the side.

Anyways back to our drink today, perhaps this is one of the best drinks ever made, I may be biased as I grew up with it. Mangoes used should be the Filipino variety as they are known for their very sweet taste. I tried this on a non-Filipino mango and it did not yield a good result, so if you can find this type of mango then I suggest make a Mango Lassi instead as the flavour of that gets a lot of help from yoghurt unlike our drink today, focuses on the produce itself.
