Mazi – Commercial Bay (Auckland CBD, Auckland, New Zealand)

While Mediterranean and Greek cuisines doing well in Auckland with several restaurants to choose from specially in CBD, when it comes to food courts this cuisine is hard to come by, luckily, we have it in Commercial Bay and it does not come as a surprise, after all this is the best food court you will ever find in Auckland CBD or even in the whole of New Zealand. There are many different stalls to choose in the place and we haven’t tried most of it yet, so far, we had tried Nam Nam, Kai Eatery and our restaurant for today, Mazi. So far, the first two did not put us down, so we have high expectation on this most recent visit.

Mazi is located in the centre of this food court, they are one of the bigger stalls. We did not have any plans where to eat during this visit, but as we passed by this place while looking for an empty table, what caught us was the display cabinet of the different shapes and sizes of Baklava. That is what made us decide to choose this stall for this visit. Upon checking the menu, it even made that decision concrete as we haven’t tried Greek for a while and were such a big fan of Souvlaki, Tzatziki and Hummus.

This even made our decision quite easy as they have a Family pack Souvlaki on offer where it consists of 2 Chicken Souvlaki, 2 Lamb Mince Souvlaki, 2 Lamb Souvlaki, Break, Greek Salad, Chips and of course the Tzatziki and Hummus. We also had Baklava of course. Items were freshly prepared, as you are given this wireless device so you don’t have to wait in front of the stall for your order, but they all came quick.

As expected, everything was good, all the souvlakis were wonderfully seasoned, moist and juicy and the serving size was enough for three people, it was all served on this large wooden plank which added to its character, nice touch specially for a food court meal. The chips were of shoestring kind, cooked perfectly too. Salad was nice as well as the Tzatziki and Hummus. The bread though was sort of a let-down, I felt it was not fresh, sort of dry and we were expecting it to be like a pizza bread where its hot, nice and chewy. Can’t remember the price, they don’t have it on their website too, but they were quite affordable specially taking note that this can feed three.

Overall, it was good, love how the meats were grilled and all the other sides that came with it, I just wish that the bread was better to make it a perfect meal.

Tried a bit of Greek when I was in Auckland but I can’t say it swept me off my feet. Wouldn’t mind giving it another try though – looks good!

  3. Oh I love Greek food! I actually just made a batch of baklava yesterday. I haven’t had Souvlaki in a long time, and now I’m craving it. Looks like you had a great meal!!
