The Parkhouse (Whenuapai, Auckland, New Zealand)

Hopefully this lockdown lasts, with the new variant here now in New Zealand, I am not sure until when this freedom will be but one thing for sure Kiwis are enjoying it a lot, the last 4 months of lockdown do take a big toll on your mental health. We came here for a brunch and it was our first time here, we did not know what to expect so the standards was set to low.

Located in the main road in Whenuapai, this was a nice little spot which is near our place and with nice playground outside, perfect with those young kids. Place looks quite popular as there are many patrons the time we were there, but there are ample seating al fresco and inside which we were lucky to have one when we arrived. It sorts of reminds me of Catalina Cafe, its spacious and looks very tidy with bright white walls and ceilings.

A typical Kiwi Cafe, with shelf cakes and pastries as well as a whole day brunch menu. We came here around 10:00 AM, the perfect time to have brunch. Menu was a two pager, food in front and drinks at the back, not to extensive which we really liked, they have only 16 main choices. We grabbed three items and they were the

Classic Eggs Benedict (NZ$23.00) prepared with house made potato rostis, poached eggs, house hollandaise sauce, side salad with thick cut bacon

Shakshuka (NZ$28.00) prepared with garlic butter eggplant, tomato, courgette, stewed eggs, grated Parmesan cheese, side toasted sourdough with grilled pork and fennel sausages

Wagyu Burger (NZ$28.00), a burger made with house baked avocado brioche bun, premium Wagyu patty, cheddar cheese, lettuce, house ranch sauce, side chips.

We enjoyed these brunch items with an Iced Caramel Macchiato (NZ$7.00), Mocha (NZ$5.50) and a Green Tea Frappe (NZ$9.00)

Overall, the presentation was great, the quality of food was good, and everything was tasty. Serving size was good too. We loved the Burger, it was so juicy and cheesy, the brioche bun was so smooth and soft, perfect with the meaty patty. The shakshuka was well seasoned, right balance of tangy, savoury and sweet flavours. As for the drinks, they were great too, we just find the matcha too strong but the presentation was quite unique. Service at this place was good and really quick. We definitely loved the place and would definitely go back there again.

The food and ambiance look great, but I’m so intrigued by the matcha frappe! Is that cotton candy on top?
