CHA+ 茶家 (Auckland, New Zealand)

Yet another bubble tea shop, yes, its everywhere, even in a small city like Auckland we do have a lot of them, every corner in the CBD have them, and most major suburbs will also have them. The last one we had tried was this CHA+ 茶家, a hole in the wall bubble tea shop located in Dominion Road. We came here after waiting for our orders at a nearby shop, Belly Worship. Initially we saw another bubble tea shop just in front of Belly Worship but we wanted to try something new and saw this place.

We grabbed three drinks, Taro Milk Tea with Pearl (NZ$5.50), Lychee Nata Slushy (NZ$7.50) and Matcha Latte with Brown Sugar Pearls (NZ$9.00). They have another shop beside them, sharing the same hole in the wall and they serve different flavours of Ji Pai plus other fried dishes like chicken skin, chicken bones, squid, popcorn chicken, oyster mushroom and fries. The chicken dishes looks so amazing specially the cheese filled Ji Pai but since we ordered quite a lot from the other shop, we will leave this for some other days.

The milk tea they serve here reminds me of Zagu back in the Philippines, for some reason they do taste quite similar specially the Taro Milk tea, Zagu uses powdered flavours so I am not sure they do use it as well here, as I haven’t seen them prepare it. There is that artificial flavour about it not in a bad way, still tasty but nothing beats real ingredients. What I do like was the Lychee Nata Slushy, this was quite refreshing and a very nice Lychee taste. The teas came in a good size, most of them are on the sweet side, so those with sweet tooth will love this.

Overall, it’s just OK, sitting in the average taste and quality if comparing it with other bubble tea places in Auckland, it’s not a bad thing but due to the many choices we have here, there are definitely far better and far more worse options.

Very popular among the young and the restless here. LOL!!! So many opening all over town but with the pandemic, they seem very quiet these days. Either the fad has passed or everyone is staying safe and staying well and staying home.

Not into these, lots here – very popular among the young but with the pandemic, they have been rather quiet. Dunno how many will survive.
