In my 15 years in Auckland this was the first time I had been into a Sushi Train here, while there was one restaurant in the city that has the same concept that I knew about, there was no urge before in trying it out since there are a lot of amazing sushi places in the city. While it may be my first here in New Zealand, I had tried this many times but the last one was in Yooji’s in Zurich and it was one of the best sushi trains I tried in my life but it was so expensive as each plate there costs from CHF 4.90 (US$5.50) up to CHF 12.90 (US$14.50) during that time, and it dug up CHF 200.00+ (US$225.00) in my pocket and that’s for 4 people.
Back to Auckland, we came here several weeks ago after an 8 km walk within the area exploring our neighbourhood. We then saw this place at the start of our walk and decided to have an early lunch here when we finish. Located in the outside shops of Northwest mall where the restaurants are. I was an early lunch; we were there around 11:00 AM and we were the first few diners.
As we sat, we just looked around on what the sushi train had to offer. There were lots because they just opened and what’s on display were all freshly made. As we grab plates, we ordered some Miso soup (NZ$2.80) so start our palates. As we wait until the arrival of the miso, we already had eight plates on the table. That’s the problem with this thing, those plates that pass by you were all inviting, you just want to grab it all. So we ended up with the following: Salmon and Avocado Sushi; Salmon, Avocado and Cream Cheese Sushi; Gyoza; Inari Sushi; Chicken Katsu and Avocado Nigiri; Seaweed Salad; Chicken Karaage; and Cheesy Prawn Tempura and Avocado Sushi.
They were all good and we were quite satisfied with our orders. We wanted more but those 8 plates was already enough for three people. Price wise it was quite reasonable and like all sushi trains, the price is indicated by the plates used. Green one’s cost NZ$3.90, the blue at NZ$4.50, purple at NZ$4.90, yellow at NZ$5.50 and pink at NZ$6.90, so it was not too bad.
The place was clean, food quality was awesome, there were ample seats and the staff were quite friendly. Overall it was a good experience and will definitely come back here.
