Slow Cooker Neck Bones and Potatoes

Slow Cooker Neck Bones and Potatoes is a simple dish of meaty fall of the bone pork and potatoes cooked in gravy over slow cooker.

I had seen this recipe over the telly, but I can’t remember which show, what I do remember is I had saved the cooking procedure in my phone so in the future I can cook them, and that’s what we’re doing today. If I am correct this dish was from a restaurant somewhere in the South of US, I am not sure if its creole but the restaurant that served it was one. It’s basically a simple dish of meaty fall of the bone pork and potatoes cooked in gravy over slow cooker, it’s one of those dump everything in the slow cooker and wait recipes so the complexity of this dish is very easy. The show used ready to use ingredients such as garlic powder, onion powder and gravy mix but for our recipe today we will be using fresh ones apart from the gravy.

One of the highlights of this dish is the pork neck bones, while some may look for alternatives, you should try it with this cut as it will give you the best flavour and meat texture. The bones from this cut will give you a lot of collagen which helps in thickening the stew at the same gives additional flavours comparing to other bony parts and boneless cuts. It’s a very hearty dish but a bit messy, like eating crabs or any crustaceans, you will have to dig in to get the meat from those bone crevices which adds a bit of excitement to your dinner. If you are like me, who loves bony parts then definitely this dish would be a piece of heaven for you.

Pork? I was thinking that was beef! Would love it either way.

  2. Where did you get the meaty neck bones? This looks so flavourful and yummy and I bet the potatoes would taste really great after absorbing all the flavours and juice from the pork.

  3. Tender meat ina rich gravy. It sounds fantastic to me!

  4. Simple, classic comfort food. I’m not sure I could really translate this well as a meatless dish, but the texture does remind me an awful lot of jackfruit!

  5. That sounds really good, and I have no idea where it might be from. I’ve never seen pork neck bones for sale anywhere, but this gives me the impetus to look. And thank you for using real onions and garlic instead of powdered. So much more flavor!
