Deep Creek Brews & Eats (Browns Bay, North Shore City, New Zealand)
A dinner or night out with my other half is becoming a more common scene for me nowadays ever since our daughter started to choose staying at home on certain times to study for her university exams. While we miss her company, we are also excited that we can have an “us time” which we did not have for quite some time now. In the end it will really be just the two of us specially when our daughter decides to have a family of her own, but for now we try to enjoy the last bits of it and try to drag her along most of the times.
During our visit to our restaurant for today, it was one of the days our daughter can’t join us. It is also good for her since after this dinner, me and my wife are heading for our band practice where I play bass and my wife sings, so we would rather let her stay at home than to be bored staying with us without someone on her age group.
Deep Creek Brews & Eats is a beach side restaurant located in Browns Bay, they serve the usual bar food like burgers, fish and chips, ribs, steaks and most importantly craft beers which they have been brewing since 2011. Deep Creek Brews & Eats is the birthplace of the Deep Creek Brewing Company, not sure if they still brew at this place but there are still massive brewing vats on display on premises.
It was a Friday night and luckily it was still not busy when we came, so there were several seats to choose from. After choosing our seats with an outside view, we immediately grabbed some drinks, it was lager for me and cider for the wife.
The lager I had was a Nikau Lager (475ml NZ$10.00), it’s quite a refreshing beer with citrusy noble hop flavours followed by malt sweetness instead of hop bitterness, and a refreshing dry finish. This Silver medal winner Australian International Beer Awards 2019 is my type of lager, it’s a good summer beer, reminds me of the San Miguel Superdry.
For the cider we had the Bohemian Cider Tamarillo Amarillo Cider (475ml NZ$11.50), now we all know apples make great ciders, wait till you have this, a combination of tamarillo and hops, its tarty, it’s quite a unique drink, it’s a cross between a cider and beer.
We enjoyed our drinks with some Beachfront Platter (NZ$45.00), shared between the two of us. It contained BBQ pork ribs, spicy chicken bites, flash fried calamari, tempura fish goujons, chipotle mayo, lemon & dill mayo and tortilla wraps. This was good, specially the spicy chicken bites and tempura fish goujons, we made our own soft tacos with what’s on the platter. The ribs are fork tender and the calamari while it’s not round it shape, it was addictive. I just hoped there are extra tortillas that came with this order, as the 4 that was served was not enough for everything in this platter.
It was a good dinner, service was really great, they made sure our glasses did not fry out of drinks. I just wished we had stayed a bit longer as there was a Live Music happening at 8:00PM but since we have our own practice, I will have to listen to our own music for now.
