Palsun (Auckland CBD, New Zealand)

This Korean Chinese restaurant is probably the one and only of its kind in Auckland CBD and they are popular with their Jajangmyeon and Sweet and Sour Pork, that is why we are here, to try those two things. Located in Lorne Street, it’s quite Centrally located. The place is quite small so it can get quite noisy inside specially during lunch time rush hour where it is filled with university students.

Prices here are quite reasonable, dishes averages NZ$15.00 and a full set menu is NZ$36 where you have a choice of three dishes. They also offer a NZ$60.00 set which is good for two hungry diners. Serving size here is good, so I can say whatever you order here is value for money specially in an Auckland CBD located restaurant, where it can easily run at an average of NZ$20.00 per pop.

So let’s go to what we have ordered. Like I said it was the Jajangmyeon and Sweet and Sour Pork. For the Jajangmyeon we tried two varieties. Noodles in Black Soybean Sauce (NZ$11.00) and the Noodles with Seafood Black Soybean Sauce (NZ$12.00). The Jajangmyeon was good, it was as expected as heard from other people who had tried it.

The noodles was chewy, in a good way, texture was nice, and it was full of flavour with hints of charred taste.

For the Cantonese Style Sweet and Sour Pork (NZ$21.00), it was tasty and quite crispy which I really liked. It was nothing phenomenal, it’s just your honest to goodness Sweet and Sour Pork that is done right. Now I understand why these two are the best sellers, they do complement each other.

They serve a bit of side dish for every order and the pickled radish was perfect as a palate cleanser, good after having all of that tasty dishes we had.

Service here was really good, way much better than your average Chinese and/or Korean restaurant. The staff appeared to be really happy to serve you as they we all cheerful and nice. Will definitely try their other offerings as they have a lot, so next time probably we will give dishes like their noodle soups, fried rice and mapo tofu a try.
