Asian Style Pulled Pork Sliders

Asian Style Pulled Pork Sliders is a type of sliders prepared using a fusion of Asian and Western ingredients to produce this very tasty and delicious treat of melt in your mouth pulled pork in a lightly toasted slider bun.

My team at work loves food, I can safely say that we are such a foodie and a dining in on a good restaurant is what we do once in a while to celebrate our successes. We also do a lot of team building that is centred around food, like MasterChef style competitions and cooking show style venues. It does not stop there, because regularly we also have shared lunches and bake offs where most of us take it seriously bringing to work their home made creations so their colleagues can try and share the food from their culture at the same time showcase on their cooking skills. We did this so many times already and it was always fun and exciting specially when there are bragging rights and trophies involved, everyone want to be the best, so I put on my competitive hat on and try to win that top spot. I have been in that place many times but not all of the times, and some of the winning creations I made were the cheese ice cream, taco pao, custard cake and cheesy chorizo sausage rolls to name some.

Today I am posting the latest one that I brought at work and it was a landslide win over others, it was an Asian Style Pulled Pork slider. Initially I was not thinking of a different dish but it’s quite hard to source out some of the ingredients that I wanted to make since it was a last minute affair, luckily when we visited the supermarket I saw this nice piece of pork shoulder roast and that gave me an idea of our recipe today. Basically it’s a pulled pork seasoned with a mixture of Asian and Western spices, like oyster sauce, hoisin sauce and soy sauce from the Asian cuisine and tomato ketchup and paprika from the Western cuisine, which resulted to this amazing marriage of diverse flavours. I then served it in a slider which I lightly baked after filling it with all of that pork goodness yielding a crispy outer layer that gave texture to the soft bun and melting tender pork.

Asian Style Pulled Pork Sliders is a type of sliders prepared using a fusion of Asian and Western ingredients to produce this very tasty and delicious treat of melt in your mouth pulled pork in a lightly toasted slider bun.



Pulled Pork

  • 1 1/2 kg pork shoulder roast, cut into large chunks
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 cups water
  • 6 cloves garlic, mince
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • oil

Pickled Red Onions

  • 3 large red onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 birds eye chilli, minced
  • 1 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp freshly ground black pepper


  • 24 slider buns
  • mayonnaise


  1. Start by pickling the red onions, in a bowl combine all Pickled Red Onion ingredients, mix well then set it aside.
  2. In a pot add oil then brown pork shoulder roast on all sides. Remove pork from the pot then set it aside.
  3. Using the same pot, add oil if necessary, then sauté garlic and onions. Add the pork back together with the rest of the pulled pork ingredients. Bring to a boil then slowly simmer for 3 hours, check liquid levels once in a while and make sure it does not dry out.
  4. Increase heat to high then cook further until the liquid thickens and almost dries out, there should be a bit of moisture. In the last few minutes, pull pork with two forks until they are flaked, mix well with the sauce then set it aside.
  5. Assemble your pork sliders. Slice each slider in half, place a tablespoon of mayonnaise, then two heaped tablespoons of the pulled pork and a teaspoon of pickled red onions.
  6. Arrange sliders on a baking tray then bake in a 180C preheated oven for 15 minutes or until top turns golden brown in colour. Serve warm.

    This sounds wonderful. I love hoisin and ketchup together as it is, but with all of the other ingredients? Fabulous!!!

  3. My office is similar, too. Lots of foodies and we have bake-offs, cook-offs, and even have mimicked the Great British Bake Off!

    These sliders sounds perfect. I love how pork shoulder is showing up more in the market now…
