Shake Shed & Co (Rotorua, New Zealand)

If you can remember a while back, we were reviewing Bubble Tea Shops to try in Auckland and that series was over but that does not stop us trying new places. Our recent boba pearl experience was not from a bubble tea but from a soft serve ice cream, yes you had seen that right, they use this as a topping on a soft serve at Shake Shed & Co.

While strolling around Rotorua’s Central Mall, after having our lunch we saw this poster that showcases Boba Sundaes and they had three choices of flavour, Blueberry Banana, Passionfruit and Mango. I was intrigued so I gave it a shot and grabbed the mango flavour which is my favourite fruit.

How was it? Well the soft serve was nice, tastes almost similar to McD’s soft serve ice cream, creamy and smooth. Mango flavour as in between artificial taste and natural taste but the boba was not something that I was expecting, it was a popping one, filled with the mango flavouring which I guess similar to the syrup used on the soft serve. So, if you are expecting that tapioca pearl texture that is bouncy and with a bit of crunch then this is not for you.

For me it feels like a plastic sac popping in your mouth, there is no satisfaction from it like the ones you get from real boba pearls, but that’s me, I will leave it up to you if you want to try it. I just hoped it was a flavour boba pearl which will give a better experience.
