Description
Marinara sauce is an Italian sauce that is made with tomatoes, garlic, onions and herbs, it serves as a base in a lot of Italian dishes.

- 2 400 g can San Marzano tomatoes (certified D.O.P.)
- 1 cup water
- 1 large fresh basil sprig, chopped
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 2 pcs anchovies in oil, finely chopped
- 8 cloves garlic, pounded
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- pinch of red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp sea salt
Instructions
- In a large bowl mash the tomatoes together with 1 cup of water with your hands. Set it aside.
- In a large skillet heat olive oil over medium-low heat then sauté onions, cook for 5-10 minutes or until its soft.
- Add the garlic, increase the heat to medium then sauté for 1 minute, do not let it brown.
- Pour the mashed tomatoes together with all the juices, red pepper flakes, basil, oregano, anchovies and salt. Stir, bring heat to high until it boils, lower the heat then simmer for 25 minutes.
