Dixie Browns (Taupo, New Zealand)

Looking for where to have brunch in Taupo? Well check out this spot in Roberts Road near the #LoveTaupo sign. It’s a good spot regardless whether it’s winter or summer. If the sun is out they have a spot on Colonel Roberts Reserve just in front of the premise where you can enjoy Al Fresco dining with a scenery, but if it’s cold you can still enjoy Al Fresco but in their premises where it is heated and with thick wool blankets, which can be real cosy. And if you don’t like the outside then they have indoor seating as well with a nice capacity.

We came here several months ago for a brunch before we head back home to Auckland, it was such a nice spot which makes us want to extend our holiday. Just looking at that Tapuaeharuru Bay was so relaxing add to that a good breakfast selection, makes you want to chillax the whole day.

Like with most breakfast we started with a nice cup of coffee, usually I order long black or Americano but I felt like it was a cappuccino day, that soft pillowy marshmallows and milk froth is perfect with the fleece blanket wrapped around me.

So I grabbed some Cappuccino (NZ$4.50) together with other drinks like the Mango Iced Tea (NZ$6.00) and the Strawberry Double Thick Milkshake (NZ$8.50).

Drinks were amazing, cappuccino was so comforting, while the milkshake brings me back a lot of childhood memories, it’s like a melted ice cream, so nice.

For the food we had some Corn Cake Breakfast Stack (NZ$18.50), prepared with Corn Cakes stacked with bacon, avocado, poached egg and finished with hollandaise sauce. It’s a nice alternative to pancakes plus this one is on the savoury side! Good sized serving, it was not too much.

We also had some Belgian Waffles and Bacon (NZ$21.90) served with apple and cinnamon compote, maple syrup and cream. Another nice meal to have, the sweet and savoury elements blend well together in these waffles which then is amplified by that tangy apples. This is what breakfast should be made off.

Finally we have the heavyweight! the Kiwi Farmhouse Breakfast (NZ$26.90) where it comes loaded with two sunny side up fried eggs, two kransky sausages, mushrooms, two hash browns, a good amount of smoky bacon and grilled tomato served with two hot buttered toasts. This was a lot of breakfast to handle, definitely good for two people. Reminds me of the breakfast I usually have when I visit Brisbane.

Overall it was good, food was great, serving size was bigger than usual New Zealand breakfast, service was exceptional, I can remember there were at least three people who assisted us the whole time we were there. Atmosphere of the place was great, definitely will be back here sometime in the future.

  1. You’ve totally got me craving breakfast food now, Raymund! Those Belgian waffles look amazing. And one of my favorite things of all time is to sit back with a huge cappuccino and people watch…or in this case bay watch!
