House of Chocolate Dessert Cafe & Cakery (North Shore City, New Zealand)

If you are craving for chocolates then this place might fix it, just the name alone says a lot about this place.  They serve desserts using finest ingredients like 53% couverture chocolate, free range eggs, Pure NZ ice cream and freshly whipped cream.  The prepare Liege Waffles which is made every morning using authentic ingredients then left for 24 hours to proof.  They also sell savoury waffles, open sandwiches, drinks, cakes, ice cream and most important of all Chocolates.  Their chocolate cabinet is always full of their latest creations so you can choose your own, but these change on a regular basis, so you have to check it once in a while to try what’s new on offer.

We haven’t been here for quite some time because we barely pass by this place, but after one dinner that we had in Gangnam Style Korean it reminded us that we haven’t been here for so long so we decided to pay them a visit some other time.

This place is always packed with people, which means two things, people love chocolates and they make amazing chocolates and that’s why we are here.  On our last visit we grabbed what they are famous for, waffles and chocolates.

First on the table was this Belgian Chocolate Cake NZ$10.50, served with Pure NZ Ice Cream of your choice and chocolate ganache.  It’s a straightforward chocolate lovers’ plate, I grabbed it with some salted caramel ice cream, and it was divine.  Soft silky chocolate icing with rich cocoa flavours in a dense and moist chocolate cake.  It’s so yummy!

Second was this Berry Smores Waffle NZ%15.50 served with Pure NZ Boysenberry Ice cream, crushed house-made meringues, Strawberry Jam, Torched Italian meringue and  Topped with fairy floss and freeze-dried berries.  It’s another champ, this is what dreams of people with a sweet tooth are made off.  It was on par as the Belgian Waffles we had in Brussels, nice crunch on the outside the toppings was just out of this world.

We also grabbed some coffee and hot chocolate, it’s a must then you have these treats.  For me it matched perfectly with my long black without sugar as it balances out the sweetness of these treats.

I am not really a dessert type of person but once in a while I enjoy these places.  Maybe we will be back in the near future but for now that fixed my sugar craving and will satisfied for many weeks to come.  I recommend this place, a nice location to have a dessert after you have a light meal around Takapuna area, light meal I say because you will need to leave a lot of room for good desserts later.
