Matakana Market Kitchen (Matakana, Auckland, New Zealand)
Matakana visits for now will be a thing of the past, with this virus surrounding us it’s hard to gamble, especially with health, luckily, we had our last visit here even before the dreaded “C” word infected lots of people surrounding us. This visit was around three months ago during summers peak, we passed by Matakana Market, dined in for lunch at the Matakana Market Kitchen before heading off and relax in the nice beach of Tawharanui.
After grabbing our picnic items for the beach at Matakana Market we had an early lunch at Matakana Market Kitchen, it was a busy day and as usual we got the last table and luckily it was in a good sunny spot, alfresco style by the creek. It was sort of a brunch, so we are in between hungry and not hungry. I was expecting orders will be slow, so we ordered quickly but to our surprise it was fast, the staff here were amazing.
So what we grabbed are some sandwiches and salad. First on the order was this Gourmet Steak Sammy (NZ$27.50) served with char grilled Sirloin Steak with melted Brie, onion jam, salad on grilled artisan bread and basket of fries. It was good, tasty but I found the steak a bit on the tough side, though it says sirloin, I felt it was more of a beef rump in texture. Serving portion was big and if you want to get full this is your order.
Next up was this Smoked Salmon (NZ$20.50) prepared with house smoked salmon with herb creme fraiche, capers and a squeeze of lemon on toasted ciabatta. The salmon was really good, very smoky and fatty, quite enjoyed this one.
And finally the Brunch Salad (NZ$20.50) prepared with crispy coated hens’ egg, smoked bacon, mushrooms, vine tomato, croutons & mixed leaves. This was surprisingly the best of the bunch, if salads are made this way, I think I can survive just eating salads đŸ™‚ It contains the perfect balance of everything, good amount of bacon and mushrooms and to top it all off that nice crunchy coated egg was divine.
Overall our brunch was fantastic, good food, good service and our spot was perfect for that morning bite.

That sandwich looks gorgeous. Missing NZ but I guess going over would be out of the question for along time.
