Patch (North Shore City, Auckland)
At last there is a proper cafe within the vicinity of Hillcrest and this came to a surprise for us as I feel like this place was refurbed in less than two weeks, I did not even saw that happened, from an antique shop that I guess very few people visit to a full blown cafe. We always pass this place weekly as we grab our Asian stuff in the Asian groceries in the vicinity, then one time it became this vibrant looking cafe so without any plans, after breakfast we just rocked in and see what they have on offer. Take note this is a late post as this happened last January 18.
This place has an ample parking space, some in front but there are a lot in the back. We noticed it was clean everywhere and we loved how industrial it looked. Upon entering the premises, it was bright, high ceiling and there are lots of space. We were greeted with a smile, regardless who the staff was, everyone looks so accommodating.
We were seated inside and gave us the menu, but since we just had breakfast at home, we just chose something from the display shelves. We grabbed some savouries and sweets then we headed out to our seats as our orders got reheated.
We also grabbed some drinks from the menu, and we got several smoothies, so we tried the Tropical Smoothie (NZ$9.00), made with mango, banana, pineapple, yoghurt, coconut water. The other one was the Strawberry Smoothie (NZ$9.00), made with strawberries, banana, yoghurt, honey and milk. Both were good and not too sweet, it’s just a bit pricey for a smoothie.
Then for our savouries and sweet we grabbed the following, starting from the Almond Croissant, not sure if this is house made but it was really good, not fresh as they were from the display stand but still it was amazing, I wonder how this would be freshly made.
Then the Salted Caramel Slice (NZ$5.00), this one was a stunner, definitely for the sweet tooth and it is perfect with that cup of coffee. So delicious.
Finally the savoury part which was the Pork Belly Roll (NZ$10.50), I really loved this which inspired me to make my own one at home. It was prepared with fork tender pork belly garnished with salad greens and tomato topped with some pumpkin seeds and micro greens, on a ciabatta roll. The sauce made it all happen as it blends well with everything, it was sweet, creamy, tangy and savoury, a really nice and perfect pork belly roll.
It was a nice place, everything was spot on, the food was great, the vibe was nice, and it was clean. Will be back here for some cooked food, I bet it will be good.
