Penny Blue (Melbourne, Australia)
If you are beer thirsty and you happen to be in Melbourne there’s no place better than Penny Blue, a beer lovers paradise that serves 150 different beers and it’s still growing. If beer is not your thing then they also serve soft drinks, juices, coffee, cocktails, wines and sparkling wines, you will never go home dry at this place. And if you got sick, tired and tried all those 150-beer selections don’t worry as this constantly rotates you there is always something new for you.
We visited this place after a walking tour of Melbourne, located in Driver Lane off Little Bourke Street this place is quite relaxing and casual, feels like a set from Sherlock Holmes, a very nice spot to grab a nice cold beer. It’s an impressive place, one of its walls even showcases beers from around the world and they call it Museum of Beer.
During our visit I tried two beers one was Wolf of the Willows Pils Australian Pilsner, this is a type of Australian Pilsner has nice floral aroma a bit dry giving it a crisp finish with a rounded bitterness. Then I also tried some Cider and the ones I grabbed was this Forbidden Fruit Original Cider, a light refreshing semi-sweet apple cider that is easy to drink, like the Pils it has a fry finish and floral aroma. Both were really good drinks.
Beers a bit pricey but that’s the price to pay when you have that much selection to maintain. Like I said it’s a very good spot, perhaps for trying out different beers not for binge drinking, anyways if you have this much selection the best way is to enjoy what you have.
