E-One 哥麻辣烫 (Brisbane CBD, Australia)

Several weeks ago, when I was in Brisbane for a trip, I wanted to have some dinner in the CBD that is not a fast food and not something fancy as I was on my own. I also want to try something that I haven’t tried before, hence places like Harajuku Gyoza, Vapiano, Hakataya Ramen or Little Singapore Restaurant is out of the question. For some reason when I dine in the CBD my first choice was on the side of Queen Street Mall where the Myer Centre is, I really pass by the ones at the side of Brisbane City Hall, maybe because where I usually stay is on that side. This I walked further as I already tried most of the places on my favourite side so I discovered this place, E-One.

What convinced me on trying them out was their menu displayed outside, it only contains 8 items which I really liked, less stress when choosing what to eat. So, I stepped down and entered the place, I immediately ordered what I want but as I as looked at my right, I noticed a massive display of vegetables and meat on one side and on top it says Malatang. I asked what it is and said it’s like a spicy hotpot but I already ordered so I will have to do this next time, too bad as I would prefer this but on the other hand hotpot are nice to eat with a companion.

So, I got stuck with my Nasi Lemak (AU$14.90), a fragrant coconut rice with curry chicken served with crispy ikan bilis (anchovy), roasted peanuts, cucumber, boiled egg and acar pickles. At first, I thought I would not like it as I knew what a real Nasi Lemak looks like (I lived in Malaysia for 4 years) but it was surprisingly good. The chicken curry is not a legit Malaysian Chicken Curry but I was tasty and delicious, it was served with chicken breast which was very tender and juicy, one of the best chicken breast dishes I tried, especially in curry it is quite to achieve this texture. Ikan bilis was very crispy and what I like the best was the acar pickles, it perfectly matched everything on that plate.

To wrap everything up I had this Taro Milk Tea (AU$5.50) to wash all of that delicious food down. Served cold, it was refreshing milky and not too sweet. It’s like a perfect way to end a nice dish, a dessert and drink in one.

Overall, I loved this place. It was clean, serving was huge and fast, I will certainly try that Malatang next time. Till we meet again E-One.
