The Deck (Sydney, Australia)

Luna Park is so nostalgic, it reminds me of the old theme parks where rides you see are mostly old school, unlike the latest theme parks today where is dominated by crazy roller coasters and rides, here you see those rustic looking rides that just delivers simple joy to patrons. Most of my age group would enjoy this place as it brings back the theme parks or carnivals of our childhood, where you have only few options for rides like the Joy Wheel, Wild Mouse, Rotor, Carousel, Walk in Scare House (Mystery Manor), Mirror Maze, Dogems, Tango Train and Ferris Wheel to name some.

The place is not that big either, it’s so compact you won’t even break a sweat going from one end to the other. Another plus is that it is located in the Sydney harbour where you have majestic views the skyline of Circular Quay.

I guess a half day is enough for you to visit this place, like what we did as we came here at 12 noon and finished off at 5PM and we tried most of the attractions. Queues are very manageable and most of the time there are none so you will be rest assured that your time here is well spent. That full five hours that we stayed here was spent mostly on the attractions and rides but we also had some down time to relax and enjoy the harbour views at the Deck with a cold beer on one hand.

The Deck is not just a small theme park bar like what you might imagine, it is a full-on bar like what you would expect from a proper one. As the name suggest they have a deck where you can wind down after a good day trying all those rides and slow down watching the magnificent view of the harbour complemented by the hypnotic tides and waves, that’s what we exactly did.

Slowly sipping our cold beer and enjoying a simple Twice cooked Dutch cream potatoes (AU$12.00) served with paprika rosemary sea salt, it’s just one of those life’s simple pleasure, few beers later you just want to snooze and feel that wind blowing on your skin.

Another good beer food we ordered after our third was this Salumi and accompaniments (AU$23.00) basically a full tapas plate filled with Jamón serrano, parma prosciutto finocchiona, bresaola, guandilla and crostini. Light and tasty, a perfect match to that Pure Blonde beer.
