Quay and Co (Sydney, Australia)
I did not know that breakfasts in a good hotel starts late on a weekend and that’s what happened to me when I was staying at this big hotel in Sydney’s Harbour. It was 6:30 am in the morning and we were up quite early as we will be planning for what to do during the day, when we went to the hotel’s restaurant they said they don’t open until 7:00 am, well that sucks and we don’t want to waste some valuable time as we had a tight schedule so we decided to go out and hopefully find something that opens early on a Saturday morning, and that’s what introduced me to Quay and Co.
Just a few metres from our hotel was this landmark dining precinct called Gateway. and it is located in the heart of Circular Quay. There was this shop called Quay & Co where we got invited by their tantalising baked goodies and the good coffee aroma, also in their site it mentions that they serve the best brekky in town, hence we gave it a shot. Later with the baked goods as we ordered something to take back to our hotel but I was after for a savoury heavy breakfast.
I started with a long black (my usual coffee of choice), they were using Campos coffee which I liked, slightly sweet, full bodied and well balanced, this is my type of coffee, the one that gives you a good hit but still pleasant to your palate. Then I grabbed some Croque Madame (AU$16.00), which is a French style baked ham and cheese sandwich served with béchamel and a sunny side up egg. It may sound simple but it’s not, this humble looking breakfast was hefty and delicious.
I was glad we found this place, now I know where to eat early hours of the morning on a weekend when I am here.
