Barby’s Bakery (Auckland CBD, New Zealand)
I usually don’t like bread but Asian type baked goods is an exception, it’s just those fluffy light sweet or savoury goodness I can’t resist. When we used to live in the Philippines there is this panaderias even in Malaysia and Hong Kong where you have these bakeries that offer these kinds of bread. Here in New Zealand it’s quite a different scenario, Asian type of breads are not as popular, it must be because Kiwi’s do prefer denser richer type of baked goods as they usually eat them as a meal rather than a snack as Asians do.
Recently there are these bakeries that started to come to light and we are an avid fan of one, the Classic Bakehouse in the city as well as Tastee Bakery in North Shore, now we have a new favourite called Barby’s Bakery and its located right smack in the middle of CBD just in front of Sky Tower so it is really accessible. Not that there is wrong with the two bakeries that we like, it would be just good if there are other options and possibly something that the two does not offer.
I was introduced to this place by my colleague who grabs something here almost every morning, sometimes he brings something to share so even before I visited the place, I almost tried some of their best. Like the other two they offer these light fluffy goodies, perfect for morning tea, not to sweet, not too savoury, just right in terms of everything, texture, flavour and aroma. Some of my favourites are the Rock Vanilla, Kaya Toast, Cheese Bomb, Taro flower, Polo Bun and their meat floss covered bread. They also have this special called IndoMie Donuts which I haven’t tried complete with IndoMie packaging.
I won’t review all of their offerings so this will be a general comment since most of what I tried was faultless, it was good in their own way. So, if you happen to pass by this place give it a try, you won’t regret it and if you happen to see that IndoMie donuts, send one over here 🙂
