Yakinikuya Sakai (Bali, Indonesia)
We passed by this place several times and was tempted to stop our driver during those times as we haven’t had yakiniku for quite some time now, but during those moments we were not really hungry so we let it pass until one time. We just came from a long day trip where we visited Nusa Dua, Padang Padang and Tanah Lot, we went of a swim on those two places, did not have some good food during our lunch and it was traffic going back to our hotel in Kuta, then as we were thinking where to eat it suddenly reminded me of this place.
Yakinikuya Sakai was the perfect restaurant for us after a long day, grilled, buffet with soup and rice sounds like a really good idea hence we told our driver to drop us off in this place and we can manage from there. After a nearly two-hour travel from Tanah Lot we arrived, luckily there are seats available since we did not have any booking.
There were many different sets from Set A to Set D, Set D (IDR 98,000) being the basic which contains 2 types of chicken cut and 2 types of pork cuts; Set C (IDR 148,000) same as set C with additional 2 types of beef cuts; Set C (IDR 198,000) same as Set C but with additional 2 beef cuts bring it to 4 types then some desserts; and Set A (IDR 248,000) same as set B but with additional 4 beef cuts bringing it to 8 types. All of which includes a selection of vegetables, salads, soups, nibbles, kimchi and rice dishes.
We grabbed Set D as it will just be some extra beef, all we need is to be stuffed to replenish and go back to our hotel and rest. With the Set D, it comes with unlimited of the following: Chicken Thighs, Chicken Breasts, Pork Kalbi, Pork Loin, Cabbage, Onion, Corn on the Cob, Vegetable Platter, Pumpkin, Potato, Eggplant, Sunny Lettuce, Daikon Kimchi, Namul Assortment, Salted Savoury Cabbage, French Fries, Fried Chicken, Egg Drop Soup, Seaweed Salad and Rice which I think is more than enough.
As we order you are given a paper where you tick what you want to get, and how many you want out of the items you tick, then give it to the waiter. This is the only annoying part, it’s not like your normal buffet where you get the ingredients your own, here you order them and wait. The wait can be quite long as they also serve other customers. During our first order we just asked for a few of each, then when it arrived it was smaller in size compared to what we expected, that is why when we asked for our second order, we made sure there is enough, when it arrived and consumed it all, it was still not enough so we grabbed a third batch, same amount as the second one. Wait times were different, second order was the slowest but the first came out really quick.
It was good, very smokey since the grill was made with real charcoal, which means it tasted amazing as well. Everything was good and set D was more than enough unless you are craving for beef. We downed our food with Ice Tea (IDR 20,000), Melon Juice (IDR 20,000) and a large Bintang (IDR 43,000). I recommend this place but when you dine in, I suggest to order heaps on the first attempt as the serving sizes are not large, 10 pieces of pork belly is barely enough for 1 person and if you think your order is not enough, while cooking start to order so there are no long wait times. So, for US$20.00 we have a yakiniku buffet for 3 people, how affordable is that! What are you waiting for, if you’re in Bali this is a no brainer, make sure you visit this place especially when you are really hungry.
