Rumah Makan Kuta (Bali, Indonesia)
This was the first place we eat when we arrived in Bali on our last vacation, we were tired after a long flight and this was one of the nearest one from where we stayed that is not a Western restaurant. Rumah Makan Kuta is a warung but located right in the middle of Jl. Raya Legian in Kuta, a very busy place to be in but since it looks like a traditional warung where dishes are displayed on window on large buckets it was not popular with tourists and mostly it was filled with locals.
They serve simple dishes, rice topped with some curry sauce and/or egg, with bits of vegetables on the side and a viand, this is how local and authentic as it can get, this is what Balinese eat on a regular basis, similar to the carinderia we have in the Philippines.
What we ordered were Nasi Ayam Goreng (IDR 35000), white rice topped with some curry sauce served with vegetables and fried chicken.
We also have the Fish version called Nasi Ikan Laut (IDR 30000)
And the ones topped with fried egg and additional chicken called Nasi Telur with Ayam (IDR 45000)
It was as basic as it can get but it was a very good humble dish, very tasty because of the curry and the fried fish and chicken was seasoned perfectly, slightly salty which was great with the rice. The only thing odd for us was the vegetable, it was the first time we had this type of leafy veg so we did not expect the texture to be like that.
Price is OK but it can be cheaper than that since some of the warungs we tried the price was IDR 10000 less, but totally understood since they are in a prime spot in Kuta they can charge a bit extra. Anyways IDR 10000 is US$ 0.70, for us it might be irrelevant but for some it can affect their travel budget.
