JFC (Bali, Indonesia)
Yes, you had seen it right! it’s not a typo, its JFC short for Jaya Fried Chicken. Like many people around the world no doubt fried chicken is one of our guilty pleasures, similar in Bali it is a favourite, people love it, you can see a fried chicken shop everywhere, JFC and KFC’s are your primary ones but there are more other brands where I will have a special article which we will be posting soon.
While the chicken offering looks similar to KFC the premises is nowhere like the big giant unless it is in a mall, usually a small stall beside warungs or street shops, armed usually with few tables and chairs since it is more popular as a take away. When we were there we did not bothered to take away instead we dined in on one of their branches at Jln Poppies. Located in a small alleyway just off the main road this small stall has a few tables, as we ordered we were greeted by two very lively characters, definitely good in making their customers happy. Orders are cooked on demand which ensures fresh crispy chicken but you will have to wait for a while.
There were many different offerings apart from the chicken, like burgers, crepes, spaghetti, hotdogs even soft serve ice cream and nuggets, offerings are so similar to a Philippine fast food, even their chicken combo meals are served with rice. That’s what we got, basically Three Combo 2’s (IDR 23000) which consist of 1 Nasi (Rice), 1 Es Teh Poci (Iced Tea) and 2 Pcs Ayam Paha Atas / Dada (Chicken).
It was good, better than your average fried chicken, crispy and juicy, indeed it was tasty. It was served with chilli sauce (a must in Indonesia) and tomato sauce, we love it. What we did not expected was their Iced Tea, it was bland compared to what we expected, specially from a place where everything is tasty a bland tasting ice tea was nothing that I thought of, was expecting a sweet one similar to the American Iced Teas.
We had fun here, the staff was so friendly, telling jokes and acting crazy as we wait so we don’t get bored. The place is quite small and don’t expect an American style fast food premises, this is like a hole in the wall or a small eatery style joint. But yes, if you every happen to crave for chicken in Bali this is one of the best places to be plus it was cheap, dirt cheap, that combo 2 I got costs me only US$1.50 for one or US$4.50 for three, now beat that.
