Deliziosa (Bali, Indonesia)
Jalan Poppies II in Bali has a lot of cheap but great restaurants to offer one of them was this Deliziosa. Our visit here was unplanned and had a chance of dining in here when one of their attendants outside the restaurant invited us to give them a try, they were handing out free pizza tasting and this what caught our attention.
Unlike most restaurants in Jalan Poppies this place is not on the ground level but on the second level on a veranda which gives you good views of the street so you can do people watching while waiting for your order. We were seated on the edge so we got the good views of the tons of tourists from the street level, plus it is also breezy so we got a good spot.
Their menu was quite simple, large photos of 3 to 4 items per page, I like it this way, less stressful when choosing your orders. While they lured us with pizza that was not the one we ordered, we are in Bali why would not get their specialty.
What we ordered though was this Nasi Goreng Chicken (IDR 35000), an Indonesian Style Fried Rice topped with fried egg served with two skewers of Chicken Satay, Sambal, Vegetables, Pickles and Keropok. Presented really well this fried rice was not just about the looks, it tasted amazing as well, specially that sambal that accompanied the dish.
We also had the Mie Goreng (IDR 35000) the noodle version of the above Indonesian Style Fried Noodles topped with fried egg served with two skewers of Chicken Satay, Sambal, Vegetables, Pickles and Keropok. Equally amazing, the chicken skewers were tender and with a good amount of spice to it.
Then this Special Nasi Rendang (IDR 55000), one of the must try dishes in Indonesia, basically a Traditional Indonesian Homemade Dish Beef dry curry served with Steam Rice and Pickles. This was the rendang that I was looking for, authentic, spicy, tasty and well-developed flavours.
And for our side we have this Gado Gado (IDR 35000), a salad of Fresh Tofu Served with Baked Potato, Vegetables, Boiled Egg, Indonesian Crackers, Topped with Special Peanut Sauce, it was an eclectic mix of different things that you think will not work with each other but they do in a very wonderful way.
To wash it all down, the best thing to do it was with this Mango smoothie, made with real mango it was very refreshing on a very hot and humid day.
Overall it was a good lunch, cheap and delicious, the place was really nice, though not your 5-star style restaurant it was clean and the staff were amazing. So, if happen to visit Bali and pass by Jalan Poppies II, if you see that guy giving out pizza bites grab them and give their place a try.
